Re: Creating my own red light district

Sooo...I've got 3 options so far...a sort of red Christmas light effect around the waterbed ... or stumbling around in amber goggles ... or putting red skivvies over the desk lamp... Well you ask an odd question whaddaya expect right? Janknitz, have you tried to sort of "calibrate" the effect with t...

Re: Creating my own red light district

Don't don't know anything about red light studies and so forth, however when I wake up at night to pee, I slip a pair of red jockey shorts I keep handy over my bedside desk lamp (a florescent light bulb) before turning it on. It yields a soft dull red glow enough for me to move around, adjust my ma...

Creating my own red light district

Sorry couldn't resist with the title... While doing some research on sleep hygiene I came across multiple recommendations to eliminate light from the blue end of the spectrum as bedtime nears. And of course there are plenty of folks peddling products just for this: special screen covers, apps, red l...

Re: Full Face masks becoming the default?

Someone above wrote: I "Im sure the profit margin is higher on nasal masks." My guess would be that the most profit would come from the priciest masks, and this may have something to do with the large number of folks who are first supplied with the Mirage Quattro. I really don't think it is a bad id...

OT: Pharmaceutical Grade Melatonin

This was recommended by a couple of people who responded on my "Revisiting Melatonin" thread a week or so back. (Thanks to all for the helpful responses!) Since I've tried the hormone without any effect in the past I thought I would go this route to ensure the viability of the product, even if it is...

Re: Revisiting Melatonin

I agree Pugsy.

Here is a Mayo Clinic link I came across. It focuses on the possible side effects:

Re: Revisiting Melatonin

Also if any of you are new to melatonin and haven't taken it before to know if you might have a problem with it...google "melatonin side effects". It is just like anything else out there...not without some nasty side effects for some people. I know because I am one of them and that was with a tiny,...

Re: Revisiting Melatonin

Thanks for the links Sir N.O. I'll definitely check them out.

LSAT you're the first person I've come across who takes melatonin on a regular basis. Also interesting that it took a week or so to work for you. Have you had any issues with side effects, or rebound insomnia if you miss a night?

Re: Revisiting Melatonin

This is all helpful information, I appreciate the replies. Except for Englandsf, sounds like everybody so far is using melatonin as an aid for falling asleep - though not on a nightly basis - and for some it helps later in the night as well. I didn't realize it has such a rapid effect as some of you...

Re: nasal congestion

+1 from me regarding the nasal saline rinses. I find they are especially helpful when allergies first seem to be taking hold. Its the sort of thing that is good to have on hand before it is actually needed. NeilMed is one brand. - Kennerly

Re: Revisiting Melatonin

Thanks for the response LL. So you take Melatonin when you're having trouble with sleep onset insomnia? How long after your usual bedtime are you comfortable taking it and how much sleep do you think it "saves" you?

Revisiting Melatonin

I tried Melatonin years ago when it was the Great New Thing for insomnia. This was pre-apnea diagnosis and back when the recommended doses were comparatively massive to what is prescribed today. So from reading through old threads I've found gobs of conflicting ideas regarding doses, brands, timing ...

When to go back on the Light Box?

Hi all. Last winter I had some success using light therapy to tune up my sleep cycle. In the spring as the days became longer and brighter I stopped using the light box as I no longer seemed to need it. I'm wondering how and when to transition back onto it in the fall. Any tips from LT veterans woul...

Re: 3 years later...??

Actually 49er I don't really disagree with you. It's damn frustrating, and creating unrealistic expectations doesn't help. Maybe for us hard cases it's more of a measured pace sort of thing. Try to move forward but do it at a pace that doesn't unravel everything else. Easier said than done when you'...

Re: FFM Riding Up

Don't be shy about modifying the headgear. I use a Quattro fx ffm and to keep it from riding up I use a vertical length of tape along the back of my head to keep the head straps closer together, which shifts the direction of the "pull" more towards the rear than the top. I also add a chin strap that...
