Re: Am I crazy? Or is my CPAP not detecting UARS?
which I find rather suspicious since that is the minimum value required by my insurance coverage for any type of treatment. My last sleep study only referenced my AHI and "flow limitations disturbing sleep 50%" during the study. No mention or UARS. Just the AHI which was sufficient for insurance to...

Re: Inhale, Exhale, Pause - Wave Flow & Sleep Breathing Cycle
The leak problem was caused by poor mouth taping technique and I believe is now solved. So according to the machine, my OSA is being treated. Getting to the source of why I wake up tired, am a light sleeper and don't feel rested is next challenge. It's also possible that the machine is not properly ...

Re: Inhale, Exhale, Pause - Wave Flow & Sleep Breathing Cycle
For the past few nights, my mouth has been taped shut. Prior to taping, I've been using a chin strap.

Inhale, Exhale, Pause - Wave Flow & Sleep Breathing Cycle
Sometimes I wonder if I obsess about having too much data from my machine... and absolutely no training on how to to read the wave flow data or its significance in improving my sleep. The normal sleep breathing cycle has an inhale, exhale, & pause. What's considered a "normal" pause? (anything less ...

Re: Low AHI, only hypopneas, could CPAP be worthwhile anyway?
HYPOPNIATIC --- About how many hours of sleep do you usually get per night, and are you a light sleeper? - AHI of 7.8 - Only one apnea, 42 hypopnea events most of which lying on my back - Oxygen saturation never dropped under 90% - 116 micro arousals or 21 per hour Your situation is too familiar. I...

Re: Anyone seen the Jaw Surgeon Dr. Sabine Girod at Stanford?
Her bio does look great! She's an ENT, DDS, jaw surgeon, and plastic surgeon (and obviously very very smart and talented). I've been a Stanford sleep center patient for 11 years, and this thread is the first time I've heard about Dr. Girod. She has the perfect background, but there's not much inform...

Re: CPAP and flying . . .
On UA, I informed the flight attendant and the person in the adjacent seat I planned to use the machine. No problem at all. When I used the F&P Icon Auto, it was important to disable the heater prior to getting on the plane. The seat outlet didn't provide sufficient current to power up the machine i...

Re: Jaw surgery
When considering jaw surgery to address sleep apnea, it's absolutely CRITICAL to ensure the jaw surgeon has trained and performed hundreds of MMA surgeries specifically treating sleep disordered breathing. Very few of these surgeons exist and many don't accept insurance. All jaw surgeons are not cre...

Re: Get this...differences with my AutoPaps after tonsillectomy
SuddenlyWO45 - I'm very sorry to hear about the post tonsillectomy PAP "challenges". As if the tonsillectomy wasn't painful enough... In 2008, I had tonsillectomy w/a pharyngoplasty (but not the evil UPPP). A year later, I had an MMA and septoplasty. I used an auto BiPAP (MSeries 21/17 in both non &...

OT - Standford Doc, Snoring, OSA
Here's a link to a recent interview with Stanford's distinguished Dr. Christian Guilleminault, one of the pioneers in OSA, UARS, and sleep surgery. http://www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/16808261-6-myths-about-snoring-including-i-dont-snore. My experience has been he walks on water. And for all y...

Like MitzyG, I use the http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008DFDNQC/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (also can be purchased at CPAP.com). The last time I went to visit my sleep Doc, he noticed that I had the https://www.cpap.com/productpage/respironics-style-premiumn-chinstrap.html.html (prov...

Re: Flow Rate Drops - Leaks?
Thank you Pugsy for the quick response! It's possible I was mouth breathing (and my sleep studies show I'm a serious offender), I wear a chinstrap and hadn't suspected mouth breathing to be an issue. I'll have to try tape and see how it works. Looking at the detailed flow rate data, the flow drops f...

Flow Rate Drops - Leaks?
Hello If anyone can provide some insight into last night's data, I would be very appreciative. Specifically, I'm trying to understand if the flow rate drop around 12:30 a.m. last night was related to a leak issue or perhaps something else. A secondary question is should I increase my IPAP/EPAP from ...

Re: How old were you when diagnosed (another stupid poll type th
Officially diagnosed with "mild UARS" without OSA in 1995, age 29, with a PES, -20. They didn't know much about treating UARS in 1995, and not sure they know much more about UARS today. Have had mild OSA diagnosis since 2003 (the next sleep study following the 1995 UARS diagnosis). OSA/UARS has not ...
