Re: Recovery and Sleep Apnea

Thanks for all the kind words. I find that in writing this stuff -- I get to ask the question ... am I just saying this .. or am I living this. The analyst in me wonders whether folks with a history in recovery are more likely to take to xPAP therapy. Or whether there would be a much better success ...

Recovery and Sleep Apnea

It has been a little over a year since I was diagnosed with sleep apnea – of which I’ve been using the APAP consistently for nine months. It took five months and several starts and stops (relapses) before I committed to therapy – no matter what. While I’m not one of those folks who has had magic hap...

Slowly Taming Centrals – More to Do

An update..from last June. I’m one of the folks who develop Complex Sleep Apnea in response to starting APAP treatment last December. After getting an appointment with a sleep doc and the RT (and showing them sleepyhead data). We made the following changes to settings and equipment • Changed setting...

Re: Still trying to tame centrals

Update Do have an appointment with Sleep Doc scheduled now ... though the soonest I could get in is 3.5 weeks out. Sooner if there are cancellations. In the meantime I will test turning Aflex off and going with smaller pillows - to see if I am in that small subset where those changes make a differen...

Re: Still trying to tame centrals

[ Maybe it is the trazodone? I'm a newbie, but when I asked my MD about my centrals, he told me they were likely from the Ambien or alprazolam I was using to try to adjust to the CPAP... and using SleepyHead, it does seem to correlate. He said any sleeping med would make CAs increase. The centrals c...

Re: Still trying to tame centrals

Thanks for the very clear articulation of options and paths forward. Quick question -- how do you turn A-Flex off... do you need to access the clinical menu.. Looked the other day and couldn't find options other than 1-3 Have bit of balancing act with managed care provider.. RT's are available by ph...

Re: Still trying to tame centrals

Been away for most of the weekend - thanks for the replies No advice but I will be following you closely. I'm in a similar situation except my pressure setting is not as bad as your. I figure sharing my experience, data, steps and misteps is the best way to pay back what has been shared on the forum...

Still trying to tame centrals

Started APAP last December – initially numbers looked good and overall I am doing better than I was last year.. but the adjustment has not been easy and I am still struggling with finding the right combination of mask, pressure, equipment, and behavior to get really restful sleep. Generally getting ...

Re: Sleepyhead data issue - removing corrupted data

Thanks as always for the quick response I was thinking of trying this approach next is as I was wanting to create a quick summary picture for a post and to talk to my doc.. SleepyHead stores the report data in a SleepyHeadData folder in your MyDocuments folder. So open the SleepyHeadData folder and ...

Re: Sleepyhead data issue - removing corrupted data

Exactly which model machine are you using? Your profile points to a 550 model PR System One Auto CPAP...your humidifier choice won't work at all with a 550 machine and the problem you are describing is normally only seen with a model in the 60 series and that would be model 560 if you have the Auto...

Sleepyhead data issue - removing corrupted data

A couple of days ago -- I left the SD Card out of my APAP overnight. When I put it in and downloaded that data the following morning -- it reported an AHI of 255.and similarly high flow limit #.. clearly a data issue since the highest AHI I have ever had has been in the mid-teens. Clearly some corru...

Re: Chinstraps and Centrals/Clear Airways

Did any of your sleep studies mention problems with centrals? Only had a home study - positional RDI supine 84, on my side ~ 11.. twice as many centrals as obstructives. Zooming in on that 30 minute cluster to the point where you can see the apneas in question would be useful. Here's the some wave ...

Re: Chinstraps and Centrals/Clear Airways

You are right about the intended leak rates for the OPUS 360 cmH20 - 22 L/Min 7 - 26 L/min 9 is 30 L/min so there may be some unintended leakage - but it is minor startanew, any chance one of your major wakes/restless periods was around 3:00?? Pretty sure I was asleep during the clusters ... don't k...

Re: Chinstraps and Centrals/Clear Airways

Thanks... I suspect I am doing some partial mouth breathing -- recall waking once or twice with air coming in the the side of my mouth.. wouldn't think it would be enough to prevent APAP from detecting and responding -- but then again...I am planning to go without the chin strap for a couple of days...

Chinstraps and Centrals/Clear Airways

After about two months on APAP (5-20) with opus 360 pillows and a resmed chinstrap – I had been getting fairly good numbers AHI between 1-3 -- though most nights I was up 3-4 times. This past week I decided to sleep without the chinstrap figuring I had learned to not mouth breathe. It is easier to m...
