Re: AirSense AutoSet or AirCurve Vauto for OSA?
Thank you for the reply SleepZ. I am experimenting with the ResMed Vauto and have no clinician help since they believe the Vauto is only for lung disease, which they believe I do not have. I am guessing at the settings for the Vauto.

Re: AirSense AutoSet or AirCurve Vauto for OSA?
After 18 years of APAP use and 18 annual visits to this doctor, I question whether the doctor is aware of benefits a bilevel machine might deliver. The doctor considers all bilevel machines to be ventilators for lung disease. Other doctors prescribe bilevel machines for basic OSA, but those doctors ...

Re: AirSense AutoSet or AirCurve Vauto for OSA?
I have read many testimonials from those with basic OSA claiming that switching to bilevel from APAP has improved therapy. I wonder if bilevel may be better by lessening flow limitations as seen on N2 waveforms. I have been experimenting for six weeks with an AirCurve in Vauto mode using PS 3 as opp...

AirSense AutoSet or AirCurve Vauto for OSA?
On my 18th annual visit, my pulmonologist refused to prescribe me an AirCurve Vauto. Both my doctor and respiratory therapist claim a bilevel is only to be prescribed for OSA when lung disease like COPD is present.
What do you think about using a bilevel for simple OSA treatment?

Re: Six months and still struggling
Are you using PS 8 due to respiratory issues other than OSA? If so, I understand, but if not, isn't 8 too high? ASV machines are used for those with mixed apneas of OA and Centrals. I have been studying the use of a bilevel machine for simple OSA. Most suggestions for PS to address FLs are not over ...

Re: Six months and still struggling
My attempt at taping with a full face mask failed because I needed to mouth breathe during sleep. A collar and chin strap also failed. I have come to accept that mouthbreathing is how I must breathe when in the supine position. I only mouth breathe in the supine position. I cannot avoid rolling from...

Re: Six months and still struggling
Good to hear I have some company in my misery! I am seriously contemplating maxillary expansion for my nasal issues but that’s down the line. Do you sleep in any kind of incline? I’m thinking if I can get in a good incline, on my back, with cervical collar to keep it all in place, I might be able t...

Re: Six months and still struggling
I am in deep study of the Bilevel machine. After examining my breath shapes, it looks like I could benefit from an AirCurve Vauto in Vauto mode to make breathing more natural and ease the work of inhaling with 14cm at the mask. You tried Bilevel and came back to APAP? Maybe the correct settings of t...

Re: Six months and still struggling
You wrote: "Basically I feel like I can breathe through my nose pretty well during the day." I nose breathe all day long. I nose breathe when I side sleep. It is ONLY when on my back, my mouth opens, the mouthbreathing begins, as well as severe sleep apnea. I am not saying you are mouth breathing de...

Re: Six months and still struggling
Your latest Sleep HQ report shows OSA well treated at 14cm. I see no variance in the average pressure, so I guess you are in fixed mode. I think I have written how using Auto mode with a range can help find the lowest possible effective IPAP pressure. Uncle Nicko of Sleep HQ made a video on using th...

Re: Six months and still struggling
Please be aware that mouth breathing during sleep can be an involuntary action to breathe, not just a mouth leak when using a nasal/pillows mask. I made the mistake of trying to force myself not to mouth breathe by collar/tape/chin strap. My jaw found a way to breach all three so air could pass throu...

Re: Six months and still struggling
I have Oscar I just forgot to put in my SD card last night. I guess maybe I’ll try to adjust those other settings to help with breathing. But it feels like it’s a dryness issue so I’m not sure how they’ll address it. Use your humidifier settings to address dryness issues. The humidity level needed ...

Re: Six months and still struggling
What would be helpful is to post an OSCAR chart. It will show which machine you are using and its settings. OSCAR is available at Sleepfiles.com. The Apple Watch data may not be accurate. It could mistake movement during sleep for being awake. With AirCurve Vauto bilevel, the Trigger/Cycle/Tmax/min ...

Re: Newbie seeking help to reduce AHI as low as possible - Oscar data
Med (median) pressure is up, indicating Min will be more effective at a higher setting. Raising Min until it is close to Med is fine tuning your therapy pressure for fewer fluctuations. You can see from the red line that Min 9 is not your optimum therapy pressure. Trying Min 10 will help find it. AH...

Re: Six months and still struggling
I have taped, collared, chin-strapped, and used anti-back sleeping gadgets. ALL failed. I was recently told by a chin strap dealer that chin straps are for relaxed chins, not a device to prevent mouth breathing. I must mouth breathe at times; therefore, I must use a full face mask. What some call mo...
