Re: Help us make diagnosis easier for you
Hey all, I am part of a team currently working on a senior design project to develop a better at home sleep apnea diagnostic device. We read a lot of papers and talked to clinicians but at the end of the day, we realized that the only way to build something useful is to actually ask you guys, the p...

Re: How do very old people tolerate CPAP?
I work in long term care (nursing homes) and I am actually surprised how few patients use a cpap... maybe only 1 or 2 per 50 patients use a cpap. Most are men. I visit many different facilities. Most patients are over 80 years of age and I am referring to the frail elderly. It is not uncommon to see...

Re: New & need another mask... I think? Help?
Hawthorne, thanks for the info. I'm new and didn't realize you can buy online, try out and exchange... good to know! Janknitz, thanks, my Rx actually does say "Resmed Mirage Fx nano swift or per patient preference". But I know my doctor didn't mean "per DME preference"! lol. sawinglogz, thanks for a...

Re: New & need another mask... I think? Help?
Thanks Hawthorne and Julie! Well, an interesting development.... I just learned that my DME gave me the WRONG mask! I was prescribed a "Resmed Mirage FX nono standard Swift" but was given a "Philips Respironics Wisp Nasal mask". My DME substituted it, and never told me it was a different mask than t...

New & need another mask... I think? Help?
Hi All , I'm into this cpap thing 3 weeks now. I am not getting great sleep because of my mask leaking... I'm allowed to get another mask within first 30 days (doing that tomorrow). Here are my problems & questions: Problems A) Current mask is leaking in various places, I have a thin face, bony nose...

Re: Sore bridge of Nose - need quick fix/ ideas
Thanks everyone. Lots of good info.
I had no idea to start the machine and then adjust the mask lying down...makes sense. Why they don't tell you these things when you get a cpap?

Sore bridge of Nose - need quick fix/ ideas
I just started cpap and it's going pretty well so far... except the pain on the bridge of my nose! Ouch. Each night it is getting worse. My DME has no nasal pads in stock and ordering online will take about a week. I am only able to tolerate the cpap for about 4-5 hours a night due to this. Is there...

Re: NEW cpap user and travel... ?
Good idea, I will do a full inventory before I leave! Guess I will just need to buy distilled water once at my destination. That is sweet that your husband is watching out for you Pugsy. LOL re: sleeping bear. I'll add to my packing list: earplugs (for them!) in case I have a leak or something. Than...

Re: NEW cpap user and travel... ?
Great advice Pugsy and kwikwater. Thank you! I'm going to carry it on (didn't know it comes in a bag). And I will call the hotel re: the outlet. I hope it doesn't disturb the family... I think my hubby thinks this is an "optional" medical need. I should probably bring along a nighlight or small flas...

NEW cpap user and travel... ?
Hi there, I am very new to this, in fact, I'm picking up my machine, etc... today. Please pardon my "green-ness". I have moderate sleep apnea (guessing for many, many years) I am motivated to get started because I feel very sleep deprived.... like a walking zombie. I initially had a diagnostic overn...
