this may sound silly, but make sure the card is in the machine the right way. been there, got the t-shirt. If it's in "wrong", the error is "C-1". His is a "C-9" error. Thanks for the fast response! So the smart card is just for accumulating data? I have to admit that in all the years I've been using this machine I've never looked (nor has anyone else) at the data on the card.
