Re: Dr. says I'm not tolerating CPAP

This is a follow-up of my experience with APAP and heated tubing. I was loaned a PR System One APAP for the last 3 weeks to see if it made a difference. I am happy to say that I feel like a new person! The congestion, sneezing and getting sick has all but disappeared. Because I am hypersensitive to ...

Re: Anyone here have Septoplasty or sinus surgery?

Just curious because I was told that since I have mild sleep apnea surgery would fix the apnea itself and possibly also releave my sinusitis. From what I have been told everyone has a deviated septum to a certain degree, but according to my ENT, mine is particularly crooked. I have been on the CPAP...

Re: Dr. says I'm not tolerating CPAP

I don't think your sneezing or congestion is going to be resolved by changing to APAP. Those symptoms are typically related to the humidity being delivered to the mask. Either too much humidity or not enough. I get the same symptoms if I don't get enough moisture to my nasal mucosa. Others get the ...

Re: Dr. says I'm not tolerating CPAP

IMO....Changing to an APAP will not help your problems. Why don't you tell us what machine you are using and what the pressure setting is. APAP with a variable pressure will not make any difference with congestion. You should be using nasal rinse to clear your nose before bed, raising the head of y...

I have tried every setting from off to the highest. The higher setting of 4 or 5 in Classic Mode work the best but still aren't ideal.

Re: Dr. says I'm not tolerating CPAP

My husband and I both had no issues with insurance approval and got our machines right away. As far as the nasal pillows, if you are getting marks on your face you may have it adjusted too tight. If it is so tight on your nose that it smashes it, definitely too tight. I use the Swift FX nasal pillo...

Dr. says I'm not tolerating CPAP

I've posted before regarding the problems I've been experiencing - congestion, sneezing, getting sick. My doctor finally decided I'm not tolerating CPAP. She recommended an oral appliance but at my last visit had said that was a last resort. She said something was better than nothing. I know my insu...

Re: Need more suggestions - congestion, sneezing, etc.

Not sure if your sneezing and congestion is caused by allergies. I have struggled with sinus infections terrible this year. The only way I have gotten a good nights sleep through this time of year is Benadryl. It has been my saving grace. The pharmacist told me that with the other medication that I...

Re: Need more suggestions - congestion, sneezing, etc.

I appreciate the feedback on the masks. I can definitely appreciate how the positioning of the nasal pillows can make a difference. I saw my doctor Friday and she finally determined that I'm not tolerating CPAP. She agreed to put me on APAP although she didn't want to. I'll start another thread to e...

Re: Medicare's New Law

I saw my sleep doc today. As I was leaving, I had to sign a form stating I agreed to see the doctor once a year due to compliance issues. The form was for Medicare and all other insurance companies. It's the first time I've been asked to sign anything like that.

Re: Need more suggestions - congestion, sneezing, etc.

Have you tried raising, or lowering your humidifier setting to see how it affects congestion - it can make quite a difference to some people. Julie, Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried every setting. I seem to be more successful with setting the humidifier at 4 or 5. I feel like I'm sleeping in...

Need more suggestions - congestion, sneezing, etc.

Thank you to everyone who gave me suggestions a couple of weeks ago. I had sinus surgery in February and have had a lot of congestion, sneezing, sickness, etc. since then when I use my CPAP machine. I've been using my machine for the last two weeks with varying degrees of success. One good piece of ...

Re: Help needed - feel worse using CPAP - long story

I tried using my machine Wednesday night. The humidity was set at 3 at first. My nose was pretty cold and woke me up a couple of times. I bumped it up to 4 and it was a little better. The Nano nasal mask is pretty comfortable and I don't get a lot of leaks with it. My face was swollen in the morning...
