Re: Questions on my new S9 Autoset and an Amara full-face mask
You said "feature called smart start I think. That means that when you put on the mask and start breathing machine starts. Therefore, it is in standby mode all the time." I read a while back that with the S9 if you use a full face mask you do not have that slow start as you start breathing. I had t...

First night with a S9 Auto
I finally got my insurance, doctor, and prescription straightened out and receive my shiny new S9 AutoSet in the mail yesterday from CPAP.com (saved a bundle...thanks CPAP.com!). I had been on a F&P SleepStyle 604 for about 5+ years so moving up to the S9 was like driving a Cavalier for so long then...

Re: Going on 2 weeks, sleeping better but AHI up?
I wouldn't worry about those numbers for just a night or two. AHI of under 5 is considered normal for someone who doesn't have OSA. The goal for anyone is 0, but some nights you just aren't going to get there. If you're feeling great, I'd make note of it but I wouldn't worry too much about it. Now i...

Re: Distilled water during travel
As long as you don't run it dry and rinse it frequently, the mineral deposits would be kept to a minimum if at all. Use the cleanest source of water that you can, but I wouldn't jump through many hoops to only use distilled or uber purified water.

Re: How does CPAP work? Doesn't make sense
Don't forget that the air you exhale is not depleted of oxygen. Atmospheric air is ~20% oxygen. Breathing uses 4-6% of that so there is oxygen left if the air is inhaled again. Also, your mask doesn't just leak when you are forcefully exhaling. Air is constantly mixing and leaking all throughout the...

It takes you 3 months to go through a gallon of water? Or are you saying that you dump/rinse every 3 months when you happen to open a new gallon?Wulfman... wrote:Normally, I just dump and rinse it when I open a new gallon of distilled water.......at about 3 months intervals.

I think it is much higher and you do breathe in the water from the xpap whether you call it mist or not is a Bill Clinton definition debate. With all do respect, yes there isa difference/debate. There's a difference between misting and evaporating to increase humidity. What do you think water disti...

Re: Approval letter questions
I believe those units represent the amount of time allocated for a particular code where each unit is approximately 15 minutes of the therapists billable time. So the tubing would be good for 15 minutes of instruction where nasal pillows would be good for 2 hours, presumably to allow for fitting, ad...

Re: Poll: How Often Do You Clean Your Tank?
Any legionnaires out there? Has there every been a confirmed case of someone catching legionnaires disease from a CPAP humidifier? All the humidifiers I've seen don't mist the water, instead relying on air passing over the water, increasing the rate of evaporation. And I thought that if the humidit...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the Icon data is still a non SleepyHead friendly format and the software for interpreting the results is available limited and costs $80. Right? Re: Shady billing, accepted practice, or accident
The big question: in network vs out of network--what's covered, how much, and who is in each group. For DME, there is no in or out of network. It's all treated the same for coverage with the only exception that an out of network provider I may have to pay the full price up front and then seek reimb...

Re: Shady billing, accepted practice, or accident
You should have contacted your insurer before ever walking in to a DME to understand what and how they cover new CPAP machines. Most important to understand is whether they require rental or they permit purchase and under what conditions, whether they pay by HCPC's codes (most do) and how much you ...

Doctor limiting equiment on prescription
When I originally went for my first sleep study, the technician let me try on a variety of makes/models of masks. Both nasal and full face. I asked about nasal pillows and I was told that my doctor does not like them so they can't allow me to try them. Fast forward to a few weeks ago when I needed t...
