Re: "alpha intrusions"--whatchya got on 'em?
You could probably google image it. For myself, I don't care so much what they look like as, A) whether they were correctly diagnosed, and B) what's an efficient path to address them and bring about whatever gets improved when they are not present. I could get a 2nd opinion on the former, but trying...

Pain Syndromes
Wondering how many here suffer from any of the various pain syndromes. How has using xpap affected that? What else has had an impact for you? Do you think you developed apnea or the syndrome first in your life?

Re: Which Machine? (seeking successful treatment)
Thank you for taking the time to explain that. And I'm very happy for you that you were able to find relief and effective treatment.

Re: "alpha intrusions"--whatchya got on 'em?
From what I have read, alpha intrusion or alpha-delta sleep is a predictor of fibromyalgia. BUT -- and this is important and can be a point of confusion if you're not a statistician or a researcher -- in research when they say "A" is a predictor of "B" they are not saying that "A" causes "B" or tha...

Re: Which Machine? (seeking successful treatment)
Back when I was using an S9, the FOTs drove me bananas because they tickled my the back of my throat. When I was switched from the S9 to the System One, I actually was worried that the pressure pulses and the hunt-and-peck algorithm would bother me as much or more than the S9's EPR, the rapid press...

What do you mean by interface?Your experience and therapy effectiveness will more heavily influenced by your "interface".

Re: Which Machine? (seeking successful treatment)
It's a bit of a dilemma, although it sounds like in cpap mode, these pulses/puffs/whatevers don't occur and so would be moot. I slept okay with the S8(?) but didn't feel well with it. So the first step is to try to find a sleep dr who has some idea of what's going on. I could always try the S9 for a...

Re: "alpha intrusions"--whatchya got on 'em?
Wondering if anyone here has read whether studies have tried to see if these alpha waves are predictors of those conditions named earlier. (fingers crossed that they are not precursors!)

Re: "alpha intrusions"--whatchya got on 'em?
Thanks for the thoroughness of pointing out google's search feature in case I had just emerged from a cave. (BTW, that's intended to be irony, not snark. ) As surmised, I was indeed hoping to start with a brief primer or orientation to anecdotal and lived experience before trying to wade through tec...

Re: Which Machine?
The Resmed uses lots of small oscillations that last for several seconds, I never noticed this. while the System one uses "pressure pulses" I noticed this. Ah, you've tried both--can you say a bit about how that came about, or point me to a thread where you go over that? How did they compare for yo...

"alpha intrusions"--whatchya got on 'em?
So there were supposedly some of these things during my sleep study, and presumably during my sleep in general. And they disrupt or interfere with "good" sleep somehow. What's the latest and greatest thinking of just what they are? Are they common? Are they really a problem? Can anything be done to ...

Re: Which Machine?
The S8 had no FOT algorithm for detecting the difference between CAs and OAs. And if you were using fixed pressure, then the aggressive AUTO algorithm pressure increases should not have been a factor. If you had EPR turned off on the S8, my guess is you'll want it turned off on the S9 as well. Damn...

Re: Which Machine?
How likely is it that the algorithm could have contributed to arousals and a slight increase in awake time, leading to poorer daytime functioning? (This would be using a fixed pressure because I seemed to sleep better with that than a range. Also, I was fine with EPR turned off.) Point of informatio...
