Re: Ideal Protien Diet - weight loss and Sleep Apnea

+1 for regular low carb, modified Atkins. Lose weight, have even-level energy all day, eat delicious food, drink some wine, have whole wheat pasta occasionally. I will say low carb is hard to do if you're a vegetarian.

Re: Best product to prevent "mask lines" in AM?

Agree with Sleepy1235. Why do people start with a full face mask?* Start with a Tap Pap or regular nasal pillow mask. I could have saved myself many weeks of aggravation, and for some people, it's years. I mean, geez.
* I know, I know, it's what your doctor (!!??) recommended.

Re: Swift fx pillows

I am finding my swift fx pillows are getting "floppy" and the holes are suddenly enlarging (because of their looseness?), and therefore unusable due to uncontrollable leaks. I have gone through 2 pairs like this, about 2 weeks of use for one and 4 for the second. My DME says these things usually la...

Re: Swift fx pillows

I used one pair for many months, no problem. And I washed them every day (warm water and soap) because I was using a bit of lanolin under and around nostrils and didn't want the lanolin to build up. By the way the lanolin is fantastic for helping keep the pillows from shifting, to get a better seati...

Once a mouth breather, always…NOT

Don't assume you cannot use a nasal pillow type mask just because you are currently a mouth breather. While I was a serious mouth breather before starting CPAP, I do not mouth breathe with any of the three nasal masks I tried (regular nasal, Swift FX pillows, and Tap Pap). A friend who has been on C...

Re: travel woes prove to me that CPAP is good

Some frequent travelers keep a travel bag packed with everything they need and ready to go. It's also a good thing to have if you have a sudden hospital visit. It is easier to pack your necessities when you are not under stress, as nothing makes my brain turn blank faster than an empty suitcase and...

travel woes prove to me that CPAP is good

So, I packed up my machine carefully for a business trip, but not carefully enough -- the plastic bag that held my just-washed nose plugs remained on the floor of my house while everything else went to Texas with me. I spent time carefully setting up my machine and hose in the hotel, got ready for s...

new heated hose? can't use without humidifier

For my six-month replacement hose, they sent me a different one from what came with my machine. It says "heated hose." It is significantly narrower, and it has a plug at the end. Looks like it has to be plugged into the humidifier, because it does not fit on my machine. I don't use the humidifier. I...

Re: PLease take this poll, Do you CPAP during the day?

People are going to yell at me for this answer, but… I do not use the CPAP when taking a daytime nap. The reason is that I am a power napper - as long as I fall asleep for a minute or two (and dream), if I get up, I am refreshed and OK for the rest of the day. And I believe (but do not know for sure...

Re: Poll: Who has never used the humidifier?

Do you live relatively near water - as in Seattle, or the Carolinas? I'm 15 mins away and hardly ever need the thing... but I know in Colo. or Arizona I'd want it. Eastern PA - it is fairly humid. But inside the house is dry in winter. Skin of my hands gets dry and cracked. Well, it is good to hear...

Poll: Who has never used the humidifier?

I've had successful CPAP (some zero OA/CA nights) for about six months now. Never used the humidifier. Caught one really bad 3-week cold in October that others were getting too. As long as I don't develop tons of colds or have sore nasal passages, is it OK to never use the humidifier? The house is d...

Re: Sound machine recommendations?

Love my old Marsona , small, light, cheap. Model TSC-I or something like that - it's partially rubbed off. But the iPad app sounds like the best idea if you already carry an iPad.
