Re: The ways my health has improved
Great post Millennia. My quality of life improved greatly when I started on CPAP 7 years ago and has improved again recently when I discovered that my treatment wasn't optimal. Now that you see all of the benefits, take it from me that over the years you need to make sure everything is set up as wel...

Re: Duovent (bronchodilator) nebulizer and CPAP therapy
Why on earth would you assume that? The therapist would use the nebulizer in conjunction with CPAP when in their professional judgement doing so is preferable to the alternative. Certainly that would include when the patient is asleep and waking them up would not be preferable. I would trust the pro...

Re: Duovent (bronchodilator) nebulizer and CPAP therapy
The pulmonary therapist made it clear that she was talking about CPAP and not artificial ventilation when she referred to use in conjunction with a nebulizer - she said that it is NOT done with a ventilator. The T junction is placed between the short tube attached to the CPAP mask and the long tube ...

Re: Duovent (bronchodilator) nebulizer and CPAP therapy
The therapist said that bronchodilator therapy was effective when done in conjunction with CPAP so drug loss in the tubing probably isn't a big problem. I don't think the technique is used very often - no need for CPAP during the day when this nebulizer therapy is usually given (typically 4 times pe...

Re: Injury caused by CPAP; has there ever been even one?
My first time on this forum. I am sad to read such immature and rude comments. Stay away from the Trump thread and just ignore the jerks elsewhere ..... but don't miss the genuine humor that can be found about the place. Nothing wrong with a bit of 'umah, sometimes things do need to lighten up a tad.

Duovent (bronchodilator) nebulizer and CPAP therapy
Here is an interesting facet of CPAP therapy that some here on the forum may be familiar with but that is entirely new to me. In talking today with the pulmonary therapist administering Duovent (a combination bronchodilator therapy given via nebulizer) to a relative of mine in a hospital setting, I ...

Re: Study: "CPAP machines do not reduce heart attack, strokes"
In that context, my wife (also a scientist) feels I'm being too harsh because it's a "real world" observational study and I'm asking for too much in the world of typical CPAP users. She is not a CPAP user btw. My take: observational studies are all very well and have their place in medicine - a lot ...

Sure. I mentioned PubMed as an alternative to Google if you want to look further. I use both myself.

Re: Can Cpap postpone a likely MI?
The best way that I know of to run a search of the clinical/scientific literature is to go to the NIH/NCI database. It's called PubMed, is free for all to use and is pretty complete (global literature). I've been doing this myself for a long long time. Here's the link: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/...

Re: Study: "CPAP machines do not reduce heart attack, strokes"
D.H.: I agree in all respects, especially your point that their own data are consistent with the hypothesis that a median (or mean) of >/= 7 hours for subjects on study would have resulted in a greater and more significant clinical benefit in the primary analysis (composite CV endpoint). Sadly they ...

Re: Oxygen instead of CPAP
An example of reduced lung function which can result in the need for oxygen in some people is after treatment with chemotherapeutic drugs. My own lung function was somewhat reduced after treatment with a cocktail of 7 different anticancer agents (they measure it before and after), some of which are ...

Re: Study: "CPAP machines do not reduce heart attack, strokes"
That was v. helpful and I agree. Of course the authors might respond to the effect that false negatives were not a problem for them in this study (except in getting the study powered). Also, if the false positive rate was zero (i.e. every last subject diagnosed by ApneaLink as OSA would indeed have ...
