Cleaning mask with Tergazyme

Has anyone tried cleaning CPAP masks with Tergazyme (a.k.a. Alconox 1304, the detergent ResMed recommends for hospital use)? I ordered a box on Amazon to give it a try because with regular dish soap I just can't seem to really get my nasal pillows clean: there's always some residual oily residue tha...

Solarcaine for mask discomfort

I finally got my machine on Friday and I had a little trouble with the nasal pillow mask causing skin irritation. The skin irritation per se was easy enough to ignore, but the pressure of the pillow against the sore area caused some actual pain, not just soreness. I tried various moisturizers, but t...

Re: What to watch for at DME appointment

Thanks, Pugsy! I get the impression from the interwebs that SleepQuest regularly, if maybe not exclusively, sells Resmed, so I suppose that's good. I'll make sure to get the S9 Autoset and not the S9 Escape Auto, then.

What to watch for at DME appointment

I got a CPAP prescription in April that couldn't be filled until my oroantral fistula had healed (thanks everyone for your wonderful advice on what do in the meantime!). Now I'm finally setting up an appointment to get it filled at SleepQuest in San Carlos, CA. I'd like to know if there's anything i...

Re: What to do while I cannot use CPAP

Wow, I just checked out that Mattress Genie thing and it sure looks a lot more convenient than what I rigged up. I have a yellow foam rubber mattress pad wrapped around the "drop leaf" insert from an expandable dining table... Then again, my setup works fine for now. But I might consider something l...

Re: What to do while I cannot use CPAP

I tried sitting up last night, or at any rate about 45°. I wrapped a foam mattress cover from the folding guest bed around the two folding leaves from my expanding-top dining table and rested the whole thing against the headboard. That and two memory foam pillows seems to provide a comfortable setup...

Re: Seeking Advice On Treating My Sleep Apnea

I'm not a medical professional and I can't really say anything useful about your particular case, but frankly, given what you said, I would want a second opinion before committing to surgery. Let me explain my logic. The first reason the surgeon gives for the surgery is that it might alleviate your ...

Re: Why did Pugsy change Masks and Should I?

All this talk about masks with no head gear makes me wonder if a really lightweight CPAP mask could be anchored to some collection of facial piercings.

Re: transport-sleep-apnea-scam

I'm amused by the idea of a "forced sleep apnea program." I can just imagine the help wanted ad: "Come work at our trucking firm! We enroll you in this program where you'll be forcibly afflicted with sleep apnea using our patented Apneator machine!" It seems like the relationship between the guy and...

Wake-up light

I was looking over the Wiki and I found a section about alarm clocks. I was surprised not to see my favorite: the Philips Wake-up Light. The idea behind this thing is very simple: there's a very bright light built into the alarm clock, and it comes on gradually over the course of the half hour befor...

What to do while I cannot use CPAP

A little earlier, I posted about how I managed to get a CPAP prescription from Stanford Sleep Clinic without waiting for the first available appointment with the doctor in August. Unfortunately, I won't be able to start CPAP for another 6 weeks anyway because it would interfere with the recovery fro...

Re: CPAP prescription pending followup?

Thanks everyone!

I strongly believe in measuring any parameter you try to control, so I'll definitely be asking for a full data machine.

Does anyone happen to have a particularly good experience with a particular DME in the Palo Alto area?

CPAP prescription pending followup?

After my recent sleep study at a prestigious teaching hospital, I was told that I won't be able to have another appointment with the doctor, let alone start treatment, until August. The doctor is apparently a fellow in the teaching program, and all the fellows are apparently graduating soon, which a...
