I had this happen and the noise was loud enough it would wake me up. Turned out to be a bad valve. Machine replaced by DME under warranty.
Dirty filters will cause some changes too but if it is a marked change might be time to exercise the warranty.

Re: Just diagnosed, in denial, questions....
Just do it. Seriously. A LOT of the press about bad masks and whatnot is ancient history. I have two friends who have been on CPAP for over 10 years and I chatted with both of them prior to my sleep study. They had a lot of stories about the bad old days but said the modern equipment was night and d...

Re: Wrist Bracelet or Neck chain pendant
In my region a DNR tattoo would not be useful. There is a LOT of disinformation out there about DNR. http://Www.polst.org has some useful guidance and if you live in a state that recognizes POLST and are to thy point in life get one. Make sure it is filled out properly and signed. BTW...fairly stand...

Re: Wrist Bracelet or Neck chain pendant
At least some EMTs will call Medic-Alert. My unit does. They also now have an app they can download patient history based on the bracelet code instead of calling. You have to be licensed and register to get the app. I'm going through that process right now. CPAP is also becoming more common in EMS a...

Re: Respironics Wisp - First Impressions
The Wisp is the only mask I have ever used for any length of time. Of course I've been on CPAP all of two weeks. But I love it! One thing my RT/RN/DME taught me to do with the Wisp was to put it on and then when the CPAP starts to blow pull the mask away from my nose and let it settle back down. Thi...

Re: Wrist Bracelet or Neck chain pendant
I am an EMT. We look neck then wrist for medic alert stuff. For wrist we look for bracelet and the medic alert watch. The ICE on the phone works as long as you don't lock your phone. American Heart Association has a nice app that IS available on a locked phone. That's what I use for the phone. Full ...

Re: humidifier water chamber
Down the center hole in the chamber is a long finger that is the latch. Out your finger in and press it to the side and the lid will pop off.

Re: Preparing for your own death
Having had major surgery more than once I can tell you that the worst is not right after surgery but as the healing begins. The swelling associated with surgery can take up to several months to completely dissipate depending on what tissues/structures are involved. When I had my shoulder rebuilt the...

Re: Pugsy Award
Brand new to CPAP (April 4) and stumbled across this forum looking for more info. I have a medical/biology background and a huge thirst for knowledge. Thanks to Pugsy and so many other posters here for all the wonderful and selfless sharing of info! I spent a lot of this past weekend absorbing the i...
