Re: What is over-tightening?
I met with Capria today. As I suspected, they're apparently not monitoring my CPAP even though the gave me a ResMed S9 equipped with a cellular modem. I have a size medium Quattro Mirage mask and suspect I need a size small. The clinician claimed I need a size large. I can't imagine that he's right....

Re: Sanity Check
I just learned, and verified, that my prescription from the sleep center specified a Mirage Quattro size medium. So Apria may be at fault for failing to subject the prescription to a sanity check but they're not the source of the decision. Their non-existent follow-up is, of course, culpable. I also...

Re: What is over-tightening?
I think you are on the path of discovering that the mask you are using doesn't work for you. I don't like to tell folks that, and I prefer to hear it from them. You'll know the mask is not for you when you actually go outside and drop-kick the mask toward the garbage can. A full face mask should be...

Re: What is over-tightening?
1) Do mask fitting at my maximum pressure rather than the lower initial pressure. Leaks are more likely to occur at higher pressures. 2) Fiddle with the forehead dial and know what it does. Rotating one way eliminates leaks by your nose and rotating the other way eliminates leaks by lower mouth. 3)...

Re: What is over-tightening?
Small chirps on the side of your face tell me that your pillow may be pushing on the side of your mask and breaking the seal on the opposite side of your face. Can you try a different pillow or sleep position? I get minor strap marks on my cheeks, but they come from my face pressing onto the pillow...

Re: What is over-tightening?
Another good criterion, it seems to me. But do you mean, as I suspect, indented skin or do you mean raw, red, sores?LinkC wrote:in my experience if they leave marks on your face they are too tight. But not always.

Re: Sanity Check
At this point it may be rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic to ask this question, given your mask issues, but are you getting that reported AHI just from the machine screen display, or have you started delving into the data in more detail? That's cited from the summary sleep report but the resul...

Re: Sanity Check
Now you know why so many people refer to your DME as Crapria Only way I can think of is to try the smaller size. Templates aren't perfect and are meant to be used as guides but they are going to be a whole lot closer than eyeballing the size. You have to deal with Crapria again...they made the mist...

Re: What is over-tightening?
My particular model mask, when tightened loosely, gives loud musical leaks whenever I move, preventing sleep. So I understand the "looser is better" criterion but it won't work in my case. As posted elsewhere, I now believe I have the wrong size mask.

Re: What is over-tightening?
How's this as a criterion, based on my experience last night: If the straps give you a headache, they're too tight.

Re: Sanity Check
Downloadable templates that can be printed off in real life size so you can check the measurement for the cushion. http://www.resmed.com/us/assets/html/mask_fitting_templates/mask-fitting-templates.html Maybe they didn't eyeball the right size cushion. Thanks so much. The template indicates I shoul...

What is over-tightening?
In my initial post, I reported that I have been over-tightening the straps of my ResMed Mirage Quattro mask. I now think, perhaps not. As I adjusted the mask last night, I started from zero (that is, slack straps) and tightened only until I could hear no leaks and my ResMed S9 Elite reported an acce...

Re: Sanity Check
I played with the mask using a liner and now more accurately recall why that almost, but not quite, works. The liner does a fabulous job of suppressing the musical leaks even without over-tightening, which means it's also comfortable. The problem is that it apparently introduces quiet leaks. At leas...

Re: Sanity Check
Downloadable templates. Thanks! Come to think of it, I tend to get a lot of air blowing into my eyes, which suggests to me that the mask rides too high on my face. At the same time, I don't feel that the mask covers my mouth well. If I open my mouth it seems like I can make the mask fall off. I try...

Re: Sanity Check
Were you carefully measured for your Quattro or just "eyeballed" as we were? "Measured?" Not by the DME provider. Maybe during the sleep study. But I don't recall any information concerning size appearing in the sleep study report. of which I was careful to obtain an allegedly complete copy. "Caref...
