Re: A success story to encourage others
It's great to see a story of success. I'm at work and feel so tired and needing a nap. It's only 2:30!!! Ugh

advice on working with new sleep doctor
I came to this board about 6 months ago after a go-around with sleep studies. I was uninsured, felt lousy and simply purchased a machine on my own and took a shot at settings. I have seen improvement, but things could be better. Now, I'd like to tune my results and I have insurance. If I were to see...

Re: Brand New...reading results
I've been on CPAP for about 3 weeks. What's encouraging is I took to the mask immediately so that's hardly an inhibitor. I do wake at times. I know, I sometimes nap during the day and have, at times, had a cup of coffee around 7-8 pm. I think getting into a set sleep schedule will help me with a bit...

Brand New...reading results
Here's a representative version of a night's sleep for me. I'm not working with a doctor (long story) so I'm here looking for advice. My machine is set to ramp with a pressure of 5.0 and max of 15.0 I'm feeling better but believe I can do better. Please advise on settings. Apologies as this is my fi...

Call from the doctors office
I spent $900 for an inconclusive in home study. Met wth a new doctor and the initial assessment was $500 (insurance covered half). A hospital study was going to run $2000. I said, that's it! Went on Amazon, bought a Resmed Airsense 10 and took a guess on levels (watched YouTube to see how to get int...

On my way!
With being unemployed and having a very high deductible, I was out of pocket for a home study and was looking at spending over $2000 for an overnight study (doctors fees + sudy) I decided to buy a machine online and ended with the Resmed Airsense A10. I am using a nice nasal pillow mask. My seetings...

Re: Why do you need a sleep doctor?
Good questions. I gave my machine to a brother in law who was really suffering and had no insurance or job.
I was borderline apnea (low AHI). Now, I've been unemployed for awhile. My home study was inconclusive so now another overnight study.

Why do you need a sleep doctor?
If you have obstructive sleep apnea and an auto CPAP with an SD card/ability to read performance, why is a sleep doctor needed? Do experienced folks even deal with a doctor? Pardon this, but it seems like a big racket. An at home study was $600 and inconclusive. An overnight study a week from tonigh...

Thanks Julie.
the machine I gave away was a Resmed S8 Escape. What do you think about getting a used machine through a site like secondwindcpap?

Thanks kteague. Sage advice. It's why I posted
I can't recall my pressure setting. I do recall my doctor suggesting I was "borderline". I guess I can't imagine that my apnea is getting better with being 7 years older and heavier

What to do next? Costs, benefits, unemployed
The usual waking up not rested, snoring, working like a zombie and hitting a wall at 2pm. I'm a 55 year old male 1) I was diagnosed in 2010 with mild obstructive apnea (AHI=14) and began CPAP. I was 170lbs then 2) I gave my machine away to a brother-in-law who really had horrible apnea but no insura...

Re: Looking for moral support -and days without napping
Thank tasmart. I do not know the fully history of sleep apnea and its discovery. It would seem to me that it's probably at the top of the list or near top of things to look for when someone suggests being so tired

Re: End Of Rope...New Sleep Study??
You mention having a sleep study "years ago". I'd ask your doctor about the prospect of an at home study and if that makes sense.
Sounds as though you're not happy with your sleep doctor. I'm always reminded that someone has to be the lowest graduate in medical school. Maybe a second opinion?
