Re: Newbie Mirage Quattro cleaning question
(Original Poster) Thank you all for the many replies -- what a variety, too! It seems that most of you favor an abbreviated cleaning over the "full Monty", and the additional benefits of things like boiling, baking soda, and cold soaking are not to be ignored. You have succeeded in providing some co...

Re: Newbie Mirage Quattro cleaning question
To be a bit more specific, on this mask the parts that worry me are: 1) the very small, flimsy silicon valve that has to be pulled out and later pushed back in, and 2) two places where hard plastic parts have to snap together -- it takes a lot of force, and getting a good purchase on those areas is ...

Newbie Mirage Quattro cleaning question
Well, nasal pillows did not work out for me, so now I'm trying the Mirage Quattro FFM. There is quite a difference between the cleaning instructions in the manual (disassemble all 13 parts for cleaning) and the instructions from my DME RT (remove and clean the cushion, and clean the rest in one piec...

Re: Starting pressure recommendation
@John: The plan is to have the APAP machine (Respironics System One) do the titration. The expense of the lab titration was daunting, plus I felt that I was extremely unlikely to fall asleep (my usual time to fall asleep being around 3 am). If things don't work out well, the lab titration is still o...

Re: Starting pressure recommendation
I'm the original poster. My SNAP test report contained the pressure recommendation of 4, followed by "(after Miljeteig and Hoffstein). When I looked them up, I found this algorithm: (0.16 x BMI) + (0.13 x NC) + (0.04 x AHI) - 5.12 My BMI is 24, neck 28cm, AHI 18.5. I hope this helps. It may be that ...

Re: Starting pressure recommendation
That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for your replies. I have read about a machine that goes down to a 3, but it was not one of the major ones. I guess my concern generally was not having any leeway on one end of the range; if 4 was too high, there'd be nowhere to go. I could always get more pressure, ...

Starting pressure recommendation
Having been diagnosed with the SNAP test, I'm about to get fitted and start treatment (titration to be done using the APAP machine as I go along), and the recommended initial pressure is 4. I learned that there is an algorithm used to calculate an initial pressure, and I plugged in my BMI, neck circ...

Re: Still terrified (of getting started)
Oh, yes, Chunkyfrog, the cloth mask! I'd almost forgotten about that option. Thanks.

Still terrified (of getting started)
New patient, AHI 18.5, mouth breather, snore index 105/hour. I'm hoping to get a sense of how I'll know when I'm ready to meet with the RT for my fitting. They are waiting, but that Medicare compliance clock that begins ticking the moment I accept equipment has me at a dead stop. The other thing is ...

Re: Newbie aghast, bewildered
Chunkyfrog! Thank you again. Very helpful link. I had a look, and (as usual here in Delaware) most of the ones listed are out of state. But I will investigate all I can.

Re: Newbie aghast, bewildered
Thank you, Chunkyfrog. I forgot to mention that I'm a Medicare patient. Do you know, will there even BE other options with them?

Newbie aghast, bewildered
I've had the SNAP test. Suggested pressure: 4. Now I'm supposed to go straight to Apria, where they will give me the machine they have chosen, Respironics DS460, and a mask which they will recommend to me. A one hour visit, where they will show me how to plug things in and clean them. NO TRYING ON O...
