Have you considered a segmented sleep explanation that sirniddinoff suggested? I was fascinated when I read Roger Ekirch's At Day's Close: Night In Times Past.

I also have ambivalent feelings about this forum. I don't understand the snarksters and would hate to be bullied by them. But the majority of the people here function as a mutual aid society and I appreciate the sense of community we have among us.
