Re: Anyone else here tried the FitBit Flex?

I like gadgets also and first learned about fitbit from lurking at a quantified self form. Fitbit sounds good but I decided to try a free app the the quantified self crowd like. It's called Moves and has many of the same features. http://www.moves-app.com/ . I just use the free features and find in ...

Re: Sleep cycle alarm clock app

I have neighbors that make their own fireworks. They wake me up about 2:30am most Saturday nights as their parties close out. I am usually in some phase of a sleep cycle when this starts. Glad I am not a PTSD sufferer. I'm sure I could take up a collection in the neighborhood to get the family move...

Sleep cycle alarm clock app

Ever since zeo went kaput I've been missing the alarm clock linked to my sleep cycle. Last night I tried an app called sleep cycle alarm lock. While the data looked primitive it did wake me up in a way that felt similar to zeo. It felt good. I'll try it again tonight. Any opinions? Or suggestions fo...

Re: Patient or User?

This summer I had emergency major surgery and spent a lot of time in the hospital. I was a patient. Everything was done on the hospital and staffs timetable. The staff even felt free to casually interrupt sleep to do nonessential things such as take my blood pressure. I experienced the patient role ...

Re: OT Pugsy 20000 Posts - Any ideas?

Do any of the professional organizations of clinicians or technicians who work in the area of sleep apnea have an advocate of the year award?

Re: OT: Corporations taking advantage of ER pricing.

I heard this piece on NPR also. I recently used a hospital based urgent care center and they sent me on to the hospital emergency department for a ruptured appendix. My insurance covered it all. I feel very bad for people who get taken advantage of because they don't discern the difference between a...

Re: Advocating for elderly parents

Thank goodness all of you are there for your family members. It shouldn't be necessary to advocate for quality health care but it is. I have no words of wisdom but want to offer a little support and appreciation for your efforts.

Re: CPAP in hospital - frustration!

OK, here's an update on my experience. During my convalescence at home I got a letter from the medical center that told me how devoted the organization is to quality patient care. Then it tells me that my surgery had an unexpected outcome. (I went into surgery for a ruptured appendix. In the course ...

Re: CPAP in hospital - frustration!

I was not warned that I could wake up intubated and restrained. (Nor was I warned that I could wake up with a colostomy.). When I woke up there were people trying to calm me down. They said things like "the operation is over." "You're OK." "Try to calm down. ". None of them said any thing about why ...

Re: CPAP in hospital - frustration!

I'm happy to report that I am going home later today! This ordeal is almost over. I have to agree that many clinicians don't understand apnea and minimize it. I already shared my experience with the uncaring incompetent nurse who wouldn't help me get my CPAP set up. I had another experience during m...

I've asked one of my friends who has a healthcare background to make some phone calls. And one of the pulmonary docs has taken on finding out what went wrong.

Re: CPAP in hospital - frustration!

I was recently in the hospital and experienced something kinda similar. Before surgery, I was told multiple times to bring my hose and mask and write down my settings. But during my three nights there, I never used it. Had a nasal canula of oxygen all the time and a pulse ox on my finger, tho. When...
