Re: AHI doubled when I switched to auto?

Easy answer: Some people just don't fare well with auto-adjusting therapy and find that one straight pressure serves them better. If I were you, I'd cut the ramp altogether (unless you just can't fall asleep at your prescribed pressure of 9). Otherwise, I'd cut the ramp time down to maybe 5 or 10 m...

Re: AHI doubled when I switched to auto?

Hi Group! I've been using the REMstar 460 for a few months set my sleep doc (based on my sleep study numbers). I start at 4 and ramp up to 9 over 25min. My AHI usually hovers around 3 (which is still high, but I just chalk it up to me being new and only using it a few months). Anyway, I decided to ...

Re: Sleep Doctors. Any Success Stories?

I have an appointment this Friday with my fourth sleep doctor since being diagnosed with severe OSA four months ago. Four doctors in four months (please see my previous threads for details). I'd checked the credentials of all these doctors before consulting with them, and they were all board certif...

Re: Minimum CPAP hours and increased diabetes

For most OSA patients, the frequency of sleep apnea obstructions is elevated in REM sleep. Sleep apnea causes fluctuations with many systems, blood pressure and insulin being big ones for diabetics. So the previous the study mentioned in the OP, isn't a new topic per say; but it is one that the rese...

Re: How to remove sleep study goop from hair

Wow this is an old post bumped up. I put this 'goop' on people's heads on a nightly basis, it's easier to remove then some people think. The white 'goop' is a water soluble conductive paste, with the most widely used brand called "10-20 Paste". For overnight diagnostic studies, very few labs will ma...

Re: OSA Occupational Health

Good Morning, I was diagnosed with OSA a while ago and had a CPAP 'One' machine, which gauged my levels back on 14th Feb fot 2 weeks, during which time I noticed an immediate improvement in my levels of alertness during the day. I am now working with a fixed level machine and i'm not convinced its ...

Re: euipment with larger humidifier chamber

It doesn't matter what machine the original poster is using. If you are running out of water completely that frequently, you need to have your machine checked. Either a seal is broken, or leak, or the heating element is acting up. Your DME can check for codes on the unit as well, they'll indicate if...

Re: I am having a problem with swallowing air

Two things that will help a lot: 1.] Sleep at an incline, with your upper torso elevated. If you're obese and higher pressures are result of CO2 retention, this can help make exhalation easier. 2.] Use the mask for 20-30min periods every day in the evening, while watching Tv or something else when y...

Re: Drool causing FFM leaks?

This might sound goofy but when I was wearing my mirage FX ffm, I would have a better seal if I pursed my lips while putting my mask on; of coursed I relaxed them after getting everything hooked up. I have tried that, and have had some success that way, but I have very oily skin, and before too lon...

Re: Fractured sleep, Ambien, dial wingin' and other things

I have alpha wave intrusion.......which means just as you're reaching a lower stage of sleep, your brain wakes you up. There's a med for this, but I don't think it has good results. My doc really didn't want to put me on it. Alpha intrustion is simply alpha wave activity that is present during REM ...

Re: Fractured sleep, Ambien, dial wingin' and other things

First of all, I would like to state that you should pay a visit to your board certified sleep specialist to address your issues. For the most part I can infer from your first post that your sleep related issues extend beyond the scope of the PAP device, and your overall life needs to be evaluated co...

Re: Opinions about self treating sleep apnea please.

This is why I train with a pulse oximeter to find the lowest heart rate controling breathing. Your respiratory rate generally does not have as much of an impact in regards to straight obstructive apnea patients as one might think. Also, respiratory rate [hyperventilation/hypo] vary from person to p...

Re: Opinions about self treating sleep apnea please.

The most important thing that I want every patient to understand with these PAP devices, is the AHI that is recorded and shown on the software is ONLY a Residual AHI . The machine will count events based on flow-reduction alone, plus the AHI is averaged using the entire period the machine was on per...

My background, to show I know what I'm talking about, includes 6.5yrs experience as a Registered Polysomnographic Technician and am currently the Technical Director of Operations for a sleep lab in the DFW area of Texas. If Mr President still has the above results, then it might indicate an Upper Ai...
