Re: New ResMed S10 AirCurve ASV - Need opinions on performance and settings

Thanks for the info, guys. I'm reading and learning.... Last night was another good one with AHI = 0.1 The strange thing is that the breathing waveforms don't look so bad during these events. It's usually from a 10 second stoppage of breathing; mostly remants of my CA Cheyes-Stokes breathing pattern...

New ResMed S10 AirCurve ASV - Need opinions on performance and settings

Hi All! I've been using a ResMed S9 AVS machine for 12 years. I have severe central sleep apnea without it. After a lot of adjusting I have been able to get an AHI of 0.0 for many years and am happy. (self-titration) I just upgraded to a ResMed S10 AirCurve ASV 2 weeks ago. I am using AutoASV and us...

Re: How many REMEMBER apnea events??

A dog can be a good indication of how the night goes. For years, before CPAP, my dog wouldn't sleep on the same bed. He started out next to me but the snoring and tossing would scare him to the floor within 30 minutes. But now that I sleep quietly and hardly move around, he snuggles all night. As fo...

Re: Frequent trips to the bathroom at night, ends with CPAP?

Yep, it's true. I never would have believed it if I hadn't experienced it myself. I used to get up 5-6 times a night. Now there are some nights I stay asleep the whole night. Occasionally I need to get up once, before morning. Not too shabby. It appears we produce more urine when we are awake (or se...

Re: Follow-up to "First dysfunctional nights with VPAP"

"But something very odd happened last night - the breathing oscillations & CA's were greatly reduced. All of the machine settings are the same as Oct 1 (shown in my first post), so maybe my body is settling down a bit? " Yes, could be your body settling down. For me, most centrals occur as I fall as...

Re: Question about ASV... it may be in my future

Another description of ASV: For someone who has stopped breathing due to a central apnea, picture the ASV machine like someone giving artificial respiration to the victim. The forced air expands the lungs. However, the lungs must contract on their own since the pressure never goes below zero - there...

Re: For ASV...does flex or humidity OR restlessness affect AHI??

My centrals are around 1 or so, my OAs are around 2 ish, but the hypopneas seem to be the issues that is always the highest number. JJ, I am experiencing the same thing - hardly any OSA and centrals, but many hypopnea flags. Could you post the breath-by-breath flow rate chart of some of your hypopn...

Re: Fat and Thin people with OSA

I've found an interesting effect from CPAP treatment... My AHI was 39 in the sleep study. My apnea events were really bad - some lasted 95 seconds. But now, my AHI is <1 each night and my health is normal again. However, I have gained 15 pounds in the process. But it's not body fat in the stomach as...

Re: Excessive Hypopneas

The S8 model based machine that he is using doesn't give flow data. He would need a S9 to get the flow data. ResMed didn't start giving flow data graphs until the S9 models. Thanks, Pugsy. Yes, when Ken said, "Also for future reference I'm due for a new machine in a few months. Which of the S9 mach...

Re: Excessive Hypopneas

Hi Ken, I, too, have problems with hypopneas, at least according to the index. I'm using an ASV machine for severe centrals, minor OSA and moderate CSR - and they are almost completely gone. But I get about 15- 25 hypopnea events each night. When examined on a breath by breath basis, they are NOT si...

Re: Exhausted and depressed

Thank you so much Tom. I will ask about a different machine. I don't know how to read the information that so many other users are getting from their machines. I have no idea whether or not my apnea events are decreasing or not. i really feel like my neurologist's office has not given me enough edu...

Re: I'm just so tired

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you are - so at least don't feel that you are the only one who can't seem to get this thing to work. I'm amazed that i'm able to function at all. For the first time in my life, i dread the night. For those of you having trouble getting CPAP to work.... Another th...

Re: Exhausted and depressed

I can't find a place to post the type of equipment I have. Can you direct me? My equipment is the ResMed S9 series with the H5i humidifier. Thank you for responding. Eager to hear from you As Pugsy said, you may have the wrong S9 machine for central treatment. Hopefully it is an "Adapt SV" S9 machi...
