Re: What to do with a very old CPAP machine?
Pugsy said that Goodwill destroys donated CPAP machines, and I don't know that other charities are much better at targeting the device to the need. I got my backup machine when I found one (similar to my main machine) on a shelf at a Salvation Army thrift store. It was labeled as a "personal humidif...

Re: How many masks did you try before finding the right one?
I guess I was just lucky. During my sleep study, I asked what mask they used, as it seemed to fit, seal and was not uncomfortable. The tech said it was an Easy Life Medium. When I went to the DME, I tried nasal pillows and nasal gel masks of several different manufacturers and decided that the one f...

Re: New machine?
I went a bit of a different direction. My machine is from 2012, and to overcome the concern of it unexpectedly packing it in, I bought a backup machine. I currently use a System One, and I found another System One machine sitting on a shelf at a thrift store. It appeared that they had no idea what i...

Re: How do nasal masks compare to pillows?
I don't really get this whole lips tongue folderol. It's bullshit. This is one of the worst descriptions - by sealing your tongue against the roof of your mouth and sucking out some air from above the tongue to create a suction cup effect will effectively separate the airway from your mouth. Of cou...

Re: Completely Lost
Hi Dave, One more thing to consider is that. for some mask designs, tightening the straps too much will make a mask leak more. Many masks have a silicone rubber seal that rests against the skin and "inflates" with pressure from the CPAP to make the seal. It won't seal at all if the CPAP is not runni...

Encore Basic
Can anybody tell me where I can download Encore Basic? Does Encore Basic work with Windows 7? I got a new computer, and the link that I used last time is now a dead end.

Re: I have my follow up test tonight
Hi Lori, I found I slept better with the mask than I did during the first (diagnostic) study. They had a questionaire to fill out in the morning. One of the questions asked about how the night's sleep compared to your normal sleep. At the first study, I made a big deal about them not having a choice...

Re: My First Few Nights - Please Help Me Stick With It
I hope you are getting used to your therapy. I was very skeptical when the sleep lab tech started me off with a nasal mask during my second sleep study. She taught me that it really doesn't matter whether or not your mouth stays shut. The trick is separating your nasal passage from your mouth. She s...

Re: But I don't want to change my machine!
I agree, my company recently replaced all of our cell phones with "smartphones". My boss asked if I was using my new smartphone, and I told him, "Yes, but I don't see much of a difference. It's a lot like my old phone. I get several phone calls on it every day..."

Re: tooth extraction and cpap
I had a tooth extraction in May (rear molar). Using a nasal mask separates the nasal passage from the mouth (if you use the tongue on the roof method), so the mouth is at atmospheric pressure and doesn't affect the treatment of the extraction. I just followed the instructions from the dental surgeon...

Re: How did YOU Resolve Your Mouth-Leaks? (poll)
Pre-CPAP, I was a mouth breather, and suffered from raging dry mouth in the morning. Sometimes it was so bad, it made me gag. At my titration study, I was very skeptical when the tech handed me a nasal mask, and I said so. She took some time to teach me the tongue trick, and my dry mouth was cured t...
