Re: A long rant. Sorry. PLMD? Sleepwalk? Epilepsy?

Thank you kteague and JHC, I do intend to research the medications and treatments for PLMD and think I will work with my family doctor on this. I'm not anxious to take any additional medications. My sleep has much improved over the last month since I've been using the cpap. I definitely intend to ke...

A long rant. Sorry. PLMD? Sleepwalk? Epilepsy?

My sleep study results indicated severe OSA and I've been very compliant with my machine over the last 30 days. Both the sleep and the titration study uncovered even more awakenings from PLMD and I had 119 shift changes in sleep stagess over 3 hours. Obviously, not good sleep! The reason the whole s...

Re: off the wagon and trying to get back on

Some time ago, my family doctor suggested melatonin for what I thought was insomnia. I'm 30 days into cpap use and sleeping much better. Sometimes, I take melatonin before I go to bed. I do think it helps a little but it just might be a placebo effect, too. I only take the recommended dose and I don...

Re: Skin changes?

Cigarbat, you give us all hope! That is fantastic! I don't even know you and you sound great. I'm hoping my cracked heels disappear To answer the original post, I've not yet noticed any changes in skin conditions and I could use some. However, I wear glasses and prior to Cpap the bridge of my nose a...

Re: OSA with Rheumatoid Arthritis

I was diagnosed with RA in 2009 and earlier this month with severe OSA. I've only been using the machine since 7/5 with pretty good results, I think. There are more good nights than not, anyway. In addition, I also have some other sleep disorder going on which is under investigation but I think it'l...

Re: Questions to ask the Dr. after a sleep study?

Great post. I've had my sleep study, the titration study, and have copies of the results but still have not met with my doctor. That appt is in September. In the meantime, I'm doing tons of reading, have started on "the machine," have a neurologist's appt on Monday which brings me to my question to ...

Re: can this be sleep apnea?

Note to kteague: I used TBD as a lazy way of writing "to be determined." I'm sorry! Yes, my sleep doc thinks I have PLMD but has referred me to a neurologist (which is taking ages) for further investigation. He wants him/her to rule out some things and also look at the sleep study results. As far as...

Re: can this be sleep apnea?

Hi, Janos. If she's having trouble sleeping, a sleep test is a good starting point to determine the reason. I didn't snore, didn't feel tired, didn't fall asleep at odd times either. I suggest you research the complete list of sleep apnea symptoms and see if any of those fit. I've complained of diff...

Re: New to CPAP and forum. Hello!

Hello, SleepyMarlo. I started using my machine on 7/5 and, like you, chose a Quattro FF mask for the very same reasons. I have since switched to FX for Her Nasal Pillows and just want you to know that they do come in "extra small." It's the only thing extra small about me. I think I'm acclimating we...

Update on titration study

After the initial study, I started on an aPap right away along with a full face mask because I thought I was too much of a mouth breather to try anything else. However, I started having some skin problems and claustrophobia with it. Fortunately, there was a cancellation at the lab and I was called i...

Re: Newbie just getting started

I've had my machine for two weeks and last night had the best night's sleep I've had in who knows how long. You will, too. It's normal to be so hyper-aware i.e. fearful of changing sleep positions due to mask, hose, etc. I still am, though less so than 2 weeks ago. Sleeping is very personal and, sud...

Re: Is sleep apnea fatique ALWAYS or can it come and go?

You could've knocked me over with a feather when I was diagnosed with severe OSA. I rarely felt tired and didn't snore. The only thing that sent me to a sleep lab was a sleepwalking incident where I injured myself. I thought my family doctor might be overdoing it a bit by referring me for a sleep st...

Re: PLMD, fragmented sleep

My doctor believes I have PlMD in addition to OSA but he is still investigating. They are difficult disorders to separate and diagnose since one can influence the other. Both OSA and PLMD can vary from night-to-night dependent on many contributing conditions. I'm hoping enough time on my vpap machin...

Re: Surprise! A cancellation at the lab.

Thank you for the suggestions. I do have a copy of the first sleep study and intend to get a copy of this one, too. My questions are now on paper and I've started my own log about how I sleep and feel at various humidity levels. I had some problems last night and ended up taking the mask off at 4:45...

Surprise! A cancellation at the lab.

My titration was scheduled for 8/1 but an opening came up for tomorrow. I've only been on my machine since last Thursday 7/5. I'm happy about it because the lab tech told me I'd get to check out lots of different masks - not sure the one I currently have is the best for me, but my issues seem to get...
