Re: Supreme Court and the Individual Mandate
to be a shared risk pool just like car insurance. That is, everyone buys a policy, even those who don't have any claims in a given year, and suddenly it becomes insurance rather than welfare. I always get a laugh when I see the Federal Mandate compared to auto insurance. Driving is a PRIVILEGE, not...

Re: Sleepyhead newbie questions
Thanks
I just completed the sw install and download of data.
I think I have quite good numbers. I average around 1.2 AHI
Not sure what the Average Total Leaks (41.36) and 95% Total Leaks (60.00) means?

Re: ResMed Nasal Gel Mask
The ResMed comfort gel (mirage?) mask looks like a good option. Any opinions or advice? Thanks! Greg Greg I've worn the Soft Gel mask for I guess around two years now. It's my favorite after the basic ACTIVA mask and it uses the same ResMed LT frame. (In another thread, I've asked if there is somet...

Re: How severe is sever sleep apnea?
Yours is pretty bad -- especially your SaO2. You will be classed as either moderately severe or severe.
But your life is about to take a dramatic change for the better. You are going to have energy that you didn't know existed.

Re: Husband help!
Yes, XPAP is a challenge, but attitude is about 75% of the success. Convince hubby to commit to succeeding - to stay alive and save his marriage. There is a percentage of us hose-heads who had no problem whatsoever adapting to CPAP. I have never once had even a minute of struggle, and that goes bac...

Re: New as You Can Get...Advice Wanted
You need to get your doctor to approve the best machine your insurance will cover. And make sure it includes a humidifier. If there is any chance at all that you might need a bi-PAP, or auto-CPAP -- then get him to write the RX for that now. More than likely you will be handed off to a DME. Pay a vi...

Re: Husband help!
He needs to "man up" and get the operation for the deviated septum - and like yesterday. THAT alone might make it feasible for him being able to wear a nasal mask, instead of full-face. And nasal masks are wonderful in terms of comfort.

Re: Newbie would like to hear success stories, please.
I may be a newbie -- but I am really an oldie First diagnosed with OSA in January of 1992 -- some 20+ years ago. That was back in the days when OSA was pretty much unheard of. Thank God for a wise family doc who sent me to the University of Virginia Sleep Disorders Lab. At that time, the condition o...

Re: First and last night on BiPAP
Phil -- I am not positive if these stats still hold true -- but, a decade ago, it was announced that UNTREATED OSA after 5 years had only a 40% survival rate. Now THAT is something your partner can get their arms around.
Good Luck.

Re: Interested in latest mask improvments
I have been using the ResMed Mirage Activa LT frame with the Comfort Gel mask for some 4 years now. I am a big fan of this mask. However, I haven't researched any improvements over this combo for a couple of years. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who is familiar with the Activa/Comfort Gel...
