Re: DIY CPAP machine
Anyway, I'm sitting at home with nothing to do today, so I'm gonna open up my machine again, both to see if I can find the sensor (not that I don't believe you, just like to see how my machines work) and to get a temp probe on that heating plate. BRB. Ok, my memory failed me, I could have sworn I h...

I love you now <3 And being a huge dune fan I'm kicking myself for not having thought of that.chunkyfrog wrote:Hikers could wear heel pumps like in the stillsuits in Dune, to generate power to use at night.

Re: DIY CPAP machine
I wasn’t asking about the PAP machine listed in your profile to be an ass, I was asking to verify that I was looking at the same machine you were. Since you have verified that it is infact the machine you were referencing, I will tell you that it does indeed have a flow sensor. If you would like I ...

Re: DIY CPAP machine
A well designed trompe could suply air at the needed pressure with only a few feet of head. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trompe Considering the progress being made with solar cells, the real issue here is political: CPAP machines are regulated as medical devices. If that were not an issue, a truly ...

Re: DIY CPAP machine
That sounds like something that would work until you do the actual calculations. Assume your CPAP uses about 10 watts. 1 hour of usage would be 26,000 foot lbs. If you're thinking of using a weight to power the CPAP, you'd need to carry a 1000 lb weight and lift it 26 feet to power the machine for ...

Re: DIY CPAP machine
Lol, wow, you guys are awefully serious about a whimsical idea that I thought I stated I was just throwing out there for ideas (not troll bait). If everyone was as much of a downer as that, we'd still be in the stone ages, let alone sleeping well with a CPAP machine. Although I appreciate the work p...

Re: DIY CPAP machine
You are correct that the pressure sensor is not used to set your PAP machine. However there IS a pressure sensor in your PAP and it DOES regulate the blower speed. This happens when there is a leak in the system which decreases the pressure. I could be wrong, and I don't mean to be contradictive, b...

Re: DIY CPAP machine
What about re-engineering an existing machine? Take it apart and re-assemble it in a housing of your choice. I don't know how much waste space is in there, but by using the existing air pump and controller, you keep the noise level down and don't have to re-invent the electronics. Indeed, that is a...

Re: DIY CPAP machine
LOL, leaf blower, good one. Point taken about noise, just seeing if anyone had done it. I'll look up the history, haven't done that yet thanks, should be an interesting read. As for the camping cpap (that was two separate points btw), I have a good idea for a camping CPAP without batteries, but I th...

DIY CPAP machine
I did a search for this, but didn't find anything. I was wondering if anyone had made or heard of anyone making their own CPAP machine. I know, you're probably thinking that it's a crazy idea. But, it is a rather simple device if you've ever taken one apart. It may be based on pressure, but my machi...
