Diagnosing and reducing Spontaneous arousals
My sleep study found that I have about 28 spontaneous arousals every hour, which are by definition are NOT respiration related events. The sleep study found I have no RERA and AHI of less than 10, but I remain at sleep stage 2 most of the night. The summary of the study totally ignored the spontaneo...

What is hte minimal CPAP pressure that is safe to use?
I can lower the pressure to a minimum of 4, but is it safe (enough air flow) to use overnight?

I noticed that the...

Cost of CPAP machine at a preferred supplier
I would like to share my experience in buying my ResMed machine (in Canada). My sleep clinic (in one of the hospitals) referred me to one of their preferred suppliers. they quoted CA$2100 with the following breakdown (I have the document): machine: $1040 mask (mirage Fx): $350 1 year of disposable f...

what is the difference between these machines and how it is decided which one to prescribe?

Re: Differentiating between obstructive and central apnea events
Resmed claims 95% accuracy: My ResMed S9 Elite CPAP shows zero or one obstractive events a night (pressure is 7). I do have central events, measured usually 3 AHI a night. Is an APAP machine better suitable than CPAP in this case? My sleep doctor does not believe in the accuracy of the home machine...

Differentiating between obstructive and central apnea events
I am quoting from the “CPAP and insomnia blog by RobySue” http://adventures-in-hosehead-land.blogspot.ca/p/understanding-data-in-your-sleep-test.html “An obstructive apnea is an apnea where there is still evidence that you are trying to breath… The belts the tech puts around your chest and stomach a...

Does Tidal volume shows quality of sleep?
The pressure graph shows when I put the must on or off. In correlation to that events, the tidal volume is very high. During the night sleep, sometimes the tidal volume is very smooth and sometimes it "goes crazy" for fairly long periods of time. Apnea events appear during that unstable tidal period...

Avi, it is practically the same as the previous picture. The events are marked by the vertical lines and "CA".avi123 wrote:Danny, can you try to show the apnea and the wave graph in a 5 min total scale and including the events (synchronized).

http://www.chestnet.org/accp/pccsu/complex-sleep-apnea?page=0,3 Quoting from the article "While obstructive events respond well to continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy, the response of central events is often incomplete and not sustained over time. CPAP treatment of obstructive events...

Central events and Amplitude modulation radio
I am not sure how to post images so I hope the verbal explanation will be clear enough. I noticed an interesting pattern around central events. Normal sleep-breath is fairly regulated - the length of each cycle is about 3-5 seconds and the amplitude is practically unchanged. However, in the vicinity...

Central apnea and the state of mind
My understanding of central apnea events is that they are purely brain-induced (unlike obstructive apnea that involves collapse of muscles and therefore depends also on the orientation of the body in bed). Anyone has experience trying to reduce the amount of central events by means of meditation, re...

Re: challenging the diagnosis of sleep apnea
Thank you very much. I am not sure what is Sleepyhead and were to get it. I have insomnia besides the diagnosed apnea. Hard to fall asleep, and I wake up because of that regardless of apnea. I am trying to isolate, distinguish and understand events to better discuss possible solutions with my doctors...
