Re: Do you know anything about Maxillomandibular Surgery?
On the topic of jaw advancement....has anyone else found that a chin strap pulls their lower jaw back? I wonder if one of the reasons I have such a hard time (and horrible numbers) with a chin strap and nasal pillows is not just because my mouth is presumably leaking, but because it is pulling my ja...

Re: sleep study and sleeping on one's side/back
I don't know the answer to your last question, but I can tell you that when I lay flat on my back and relax, I can feel my airway closing. So it makes perfect sense to me that my AHIs are much higher on my back. From what I understand on this board, position is a bigger factor for some people than o...

Re: New on the cpap
I had horrible leaks with my full face mask in my first week. It was a matter of learning how to sleep so that it leaked less...there are ways of shifting position that don't cause a leak or cause it momentarily and you can shove the side of your face into your pillow just so to stop it without havi...

Re: sleep study and sleeping on one's side/back
I've forgotten the numbers, but I had 2-3 times as many AHIs on my back as on my side, and I didn't spend that much time on my back. Now when I look at my data in sleepyhead, I see clusters of hypopneas and sometimes apneas and wonder if I'm sleeping on my back when that happens. (I try to avoid sle...

Re: sleep apnea & deviated septum
I've always wondered about the idea that a deviated septum can cause OSA. Well...in my case, snoring and apneas were reported by others from a very young age. As in, my mom could hear me snoring down the hall when I was a baby, and she'd hear me stop breathing and restart, or watch it happen. (My o...

Re: sleep apnea & deviated septum
My septoplasty made a dramatic difference in my nasal and sinus congestion and related headaches and sinus infections because of the poor drainage. It also seems that being able to use my nose to filter the air, as it was intended to do, rather than breathe through my mouth day and night, is helping...

Re: sleep apnea & deviated septum
I had a septoplasty and turbinate reduction earlier this year and I'm glad I had the surgery, but nighttime breathing was only a very minor consideration. Are there any other reasons you would have the surgery? It's a pretty drastic move to *maybe* reduce or eliminate the need for CPAP.

Re: Hurry up and wait...a sleep apnea journey
We need a banging head against a wall icon There was a lot of back and forth and delays at the start of my journey, so I do sympathize with you. I hope and pray that the settings I have are good, because I suspect there'd be a lot of dancing around to get them adjusted, and while I know the informat...

Re: Does type of mask affect pressure needs?
I wondered if the masks were always shipped with more pillow sizes since they are sold that way on here and many people seem to have extras. The RT threw the extra pillows in a drawer full of them in various sizes and took out an extra XS pillow as a replacement to send home with me. I'm pretty sure...

Re: Does type of mask affect pressure needs?
My pressure setting is 6. I don't use ramp. I felt almost like I was using ramp with the pillows which is why I wondered if a little higher pressure would have helped. I was told I have very small nostrils and was given XS pillows. The holes really are tiny, and I wondered if having size small would...

Does type of mask affect pressure needs?
Since I don't have an APAP to play with auto-titrating, I wondered if those who do find certain masks tend to use certain pressures. My in-lab titration was with a full-face mask and seems to work at home with that pressure. When I try nasal pillows, and change the machine setting accordingly, it fe...

Re: I'm just so tired (waiting for machine)
I had a similar delay. I was able to improve things somewhat my consciously not sleeping on my back, knowing that my apnea is far worse on my back. Otherwise, as exciting as it i to start treatment and hopefully feel better soon, you've been without a CPAP this long and another two weeks isn't that ...

Re: My dry mouth problem is better with one Full Face Mask
I love the extra humidity from my machine. It's far better than sleeping with my mouth open without my own personal humidifier right there I was physically unable to breathe through only my nose until earlier this year. I wouldn't have had surgery to correct it unless there were other problems becau...

Re: Weight ?
When my sleep problems were at their worst, I had so little energy, needed to nap in the afternoon whenever I got a chance, and felt like I didn't have the energy to keep my house clean, much less exercise. Sometimes I'd try, and I was so wiped out, I had nothing left for daily responsibilities. CPA...

Re: Is this normally the way a sleep lab works?
Sloop, where do you find your sublingual melatonin? I'd be interested in trying it. I try to reserve sleep aids for rare occasions and I know from some times when I needed Benadryl for its antihistamine properties that it will make me very sleepy, so I feel comfortable going for what I know works fo...
