Re: New CPAP user still using sleep meds
There's nothing to be afraid of if you gradually taper off the meds. Cold turkey is not a good idea, IMHO. It took me a month and you have to shave a little more off the pills every few days using a sharp single edged razor blade. Almost everybody takes about 3-4 weeks. Some nights can be rough and...

Re: Water overload
The tech who set me up advised me to put cold distilled water in the tank. She said it would be better and easier to breath cold water rather than warm water, so that is what I have done. It's a heated humidifier. It will heat up the water as soon as you turn it on. I don't see any benefit from put...

Re: New CPAP user still using sleep meds
Taking Zolpidem (generic Ambien) for sleep is recommended for those with OSA and especially those with Central Sleep Apnea Syndrome. Read about it here under medications: Excerpt • Sedative hypnotics: These agents have been used successfully in treating nonhypercapnic central sleep apnea. Temazepam...

Re: Water overload
Sheriff may be right. In sunny SoCal, the humidity might be high enough to get by without added humidity-for a while. But, if you are using A.C., it might be too dry in the house to be comfy without it. If you need the water to keep a moist air passage, you may notice some dryness, scratchiness. Wi...

Re: Water overload
Thank you Sheriff for the information. Its funny, I can search Google and not get an answer on this, but you know exactly what I am talking about. I'm going to make sure that setting is low tonight and see about re-routing the tubing to be above me. My machine is on my bedside table which is at the...

Re: Water overload
Your welcome... Lots of people here flinch when I ask this (Pugsy.... look the other way!!! ), but do you need the humidifier? I know its a personal issue and most folks do need it... but I'm askin' you, Liz, do you need it? If so, you can work at resolving the rain out. If not... chunk it.... Ever...

Water overload
I woke up at 4am this morning to my tubing making a screeching noise. I had a lot of water in the tube and in my mask. I took it off and went back to sleep. Now looking at what went on, there is a large amount of water deposited in the air way and the mask. My lungs hurt from breathing this in. Chec...

Re: New CPAP user still using sleep meds
I've thought about why I am afraid to stop using the Ambien. I've depended on it for so long, I am afraid to have a restless nights sleep. I have been cutting the pills in half for a week now trying to wean myself off of it. I'll have to try the suggestion of taking a weekend and trying to not use i...

Re: Took the mask off in my sleep
I have only been using my machine for about a month now and that happens all of the time. I manage to turn the machine off and take the mask off, but I don't remember doing it. I think it just takes time and getting used to it. I've had 2 full nights of not taking my mask off and hoping for many more!

New CPAP user still using sleep meds
Hi there, Does anyone still use a sleep aid to fall asleep? My doctor prescribed Ambien a few years ago and I have been taking it in order to sleep. After 2 sleep studies and being diagnosed with mild sleep apnea, the doctor now has me on a CPAP machine. I've used the machine for a month and I feel ...
