Re: Flonase (fluticasone)

I'm constantly just on the edge of going this route. Have you tried fexofenadine? Also, taking the Flonase at just the right time in the evening helps. I really hope to avoid the FFM. I have tried fexofenadine, but I found that cetirizine (Claritin) was more effective for me. I have not tried the n...

Re: Enlarged Nasal Turbinates and Nasal Masks

I had a turbinate reduction something like 22 years ago and mine have also grown back. I have sidestepped the entire issue (as well as the issue of "how do you use your CPAP when you have a cold") by switching to a full face mask. The FFM works great for me; I would never go back to the nasal pillow...

Re: Flonase (fluticasone)

It is true that Flonase/fluticasone, unlike many over-the-counter nasal sprays, is both intended for and safe for long-term use. In my experience, using fluticasone did make it easier to breathe through my nasal pillow mask on most nights. I ended up switching to (and continue to prefer) a full face...

Re: Turned off EPR/C-Flex completely, feel much more well rested

I too found that I sleep much better (and fall asleep much better) with EPR turned off. When EPR was on, I found that it reduced the pressure (for "relief") well before I had completed inhaling what I consider a "normal" breath. This led to my taking shorter breaths than I would have preferred to, w...

Re: Orange Specks in H5i Tank?

Its not rust is it? Do the spots come off if you wipe it with a q-tip? Want to try science at home? if so, wipe the q-tip on jello and put one sealed sample in your fridge for a day and another at room temperature if you want to verify its biological. Oh, that would have been a fun thing to try! Ho...

Re: How do you feel when you fall asleep without CPAP?

Same here. I haven't slept without CPAP since I was first diagnosed, and I wouldn't want to. I only started CPAP about 6 weeks ago, so the memory of how poorly I used to feel *every morning* is still very fresh in my mind.

It does? Shouldn't those be killed/destroyed by the water treatment process before entering the distribution system?

Re: Orange Specks in H5i Tank?

Whoa, whoa, whoa, settle down, Beavis[es]! I don't wanna get caught in the crossfire here... Anyway, the vinegar solution didn't work, but the mild bleach solution did. Looks as clean as new. Guess I'll go grab some distilled water and see how that does going forward. As for being a DJ... Well... Pe...

Re: Orange Specks in H5i Tank?

My insurance does allow a fairly wide range of DMEs. I am concerned, though, because I am in the 2nd month on my CPAP equipment. From what I've read on this site, that makes it more difficult to return/exchange CPAP equipment than in the 1st month. I am very lucky in that there is no insurance co-pa...

Re: Question

If you are going to take sedatives of any kind (including alcohol), I would recommend asking your sleep doctor about it. They may decide to change your pressure setting or prescribe an AutoPAP machine, especially if the sedatives are therapeutic in nature...

Re: Resmed S9 Elite vs. Autoset

If you just started, it might take some time to get used to the feeling of the pressure. I started about 6 weeks ago and it took a week or two for me to fully get used to it. In the mean time, do you have the "ramp" feature set on your machine? If you wake up in the middle of the night feeling like ...

Re: Orange Specks in H5i Tank?

Since tap water does leave bacteria behind I would suggest when rinsing to clean this up you also rinse with distilled water. It does? Ugh. Maybe I'd better disregard the advice of the DME and just use distilled for everything. As has been mentioned in the thread, it's not particularly expensive, a...

Re: Orange Specks in H5i Tank?

BTW why S9 Escape? Because I'm an idiot (or, to put it kindly, a CPAP newbie) and let the DME foist it off on me, not knowing that it wasn't really data capable. (They insinuated that it was, but all it gathers is compliance data.) I have an appointment with them for next week to try to get them to...

Orange Specks in H5i Tank?

Good evening, I have been using my ResMed S9 with H5i for about six weeks now, and recently I have noticed some orange specks or flakes on the bottom of the H5i water tank. I have been using city tap water in the H5i because the lady at the DME said that was fine as long as I rinse the tank out ever...

Re: Some Newbie Questions

As I understand it the EPR works only on Expiration. The E stands for Expiration. Expiration Pressure Relief. Yeah, that's my understanding too. It just seems to kick in a little early, when I'm almost but not *quite* finished inhaling. It's not necessarily a problem, I seem to be getting used to i...
