Re: Travel and dead Resmed power supply. Coincidence?

Try checking the pins in the plug connector that attach the s9. Could be that upon inserting the plug, one of the pins was not aligned and got bent, providing intermittent power. If this is the case, you may be able to realign the pin(s) with a small tweezer. I just so happened to be at Sleepquest p...

Re: Can Data Tell If I Have a Mask Problem?

You saw improvement with the Confort Gel over the Quattro on the 1st night. You have the F&P in hand so maybe try it over the weekend and see if there is same/better/worse results. It should not take long to make that determination since it looks like the Comfort Gel had such a "quick" improvement. ...

Re: Can Data Tell If I Have a Mask Problem?

suggestion for when you go back to the DME today 1. I know the Quattro doesnt work, take it back 2. Please fit me with these two new masks under pressure in your office. That way I can focus on the mask that is capable of holding pressure and you could potentially save me weeks of evaluation if the ...

Re: Can Data Tell If I Have a Mask Problem?

From the graphs you provide, and assuming you have your machine set on a ramp up (sorry if this has been covered already) it seems like the leaks start right away and you never establish a seal. If this is true with the Quatro, then you should be able to tell right away if the two new masks will wor...

Re: Can Data Tell If I Have a Mask Problem?

I started with the Quatro and it did not work well for me. Leaks above 30 and just too bulky. The DME fitted me with a Resmed Liberty and I got that to work well (and still use it). The smaller surface area around the seal helped with the leaks (less places for leaks), but you also have to fidget wi...

Re: Will I still need sleep meds once I get used to BiPAP?

Before CPAP I would wake up 4-6 times a night and could not get back to sleep. I speculate that the AHI's were inducing this. If I took an Ambian (or other sleep aid), it would help me get back to sleep, but it would not keep me asleep. After starting CPAP, I may wake up 1-2x a night (usually due to...

Re: Will I still need sleep meds once I get used to BiPAP?

There is hope that you will go off meds if your situation is similar to what mine was. I had insomnia for the past decade and was asking my doctor for more ambian, sonata, etc. Finally he sent me to a sleep clinic/doctor and I would say that my insomnia is essentially gone. In the past 4 months I ha...

Re: How do you feel about taking Valium with CPAP therapy?

a suggestion would be to work out a plan with your new doctor to slowly get the nightly dose lowered. Once you can define the lowest dose (perhaps none), then you can think about substitute medications. Good luck

Re: United Healthcare Replacement Schedule?

I have United Healthcare and recently got an Resmed S9 w/ humidifier, and a resmed mask (liberty). So far I've only had to pay $170 and I got a $50 rebate from Resmed! After 5 weeks I had some leaks and my DME (Sleepquest) provided me with 3 sets of pillows and 2 cushions and some filters and they t...

Re: Why would an APAP prescription be lower than a CPAP?

DUUUGH! OK, I think you solved it! Makes sense as it is quite clear that he says lower setting AND he brings up that the added pressure is 11 (which is still under my 95% pressure of 13). This may be able to stop the AHI's before they start. I do notice that on some nights they clump together. Thank...

Why would an APAP prescription be lower than a CPAP?

My doctor prescribed 17 cm H20 CPAP. 17 was uncomfortable so I switched over to APAP with 9 as the lower setting and 17 as the high hoping to spend more time at lower pressures. My AHI went from 20-24 (untreated) to a 30 day average of 1.3 with APAP. My 30 day average 95% pressure is around 13 cm H2...

Re: CPAP is working - sometimes wake up fighting to exhale

Thanks for all of your responses. Ive read more from this site, and this is what I think is happening. Mask starts to leak, auto machine increases pressure, I wake up due to the leak and adjust mask, pressure is now too high for me to deal with (like a leaf blower in my face). I have a hybrid mask, ...

CPAP is working - sometimes wake up fighting to exhale

Been using for 10 days. some minor leak issues (a few days close to 24), AHI averaging around 2 (25 before CPAP). Resmed S9 set at auto with 17 as the upper limit. Machine rarely goes over 15 (sleepyhead software and Resmed software). A few times during the night i wake up fighting to exhale. I chec...
