Re: Provent for sleep apnea
Advice duly noted and I will heed it. I'll order the Provent today and dip my toe in the water at home first. Thanks.

Re: Provent for sleep apnea
OK, got the scripts no problem. I'll see if I can't get them over the phone or online. We've got a trip coming up next week, and while it's in-state and we're driving, it seems like a good opp for a 'field test'. At $50/m I'm certainly not planning on using them to supplant my machine which is essen...

Re: Provent for sleep apnea
I travel a lot, either as a consultant, or the traveling companion of my gf, who is also one. If the gig is in Fla. or Ga. and we can drive the PAP is an acceptable and minor inconvenience for the benefits accrued. However, the whole thing gets turned on it's head when the airport is part of the mix...

Mark, no apologies bro. Your doing your fellow man a huge service.
I for one have learned more and can manage my illness better thanks to your software.
Blessings on you and your house, and all the fruits of your labor.

Ameriken, I'm so happy for you and your family! You've done the heavy lifting, so know that the hard part is behind you. I'm also doubly happy that you're getting answers and working hard before the meds wreck major pieces of your life. The rest of this note is for Ken and people in pain or love som...

@Lazer,
You're quite welcome. Too bad this sort of thing isn't common knowledge.
The older I get, the more drugs look like drugs. What's helped me the most in 30 years are some vitamins, minerals, and a PAP machine. All drug free.

Data, congratulations on going from severe to zero. You are already beating the statistics. Based on your previous posts, there is a short e-book you may find very informative and helpful: http://www.thewayup.com/ebook/f/TheWayUp.pdf It is a short essay written by a very observant psychiatrist in ev...

Re: ...died in his/her sleep...
I usually have to get up at least once per night, usually right around the middle of the night, and I'll hit 'Info' and check my numbers and they are almost always really low...like '0.#'. I could be wrong here but I don't think the machine has yet calculated your numbers at that point, so looking ...

Re: OT: Osteoporosis & Premenopausal
Just for grins, start drinking magnesium bicarbonate water As long as the grin doesn't turn into a frown from allergies, side effects, or overdoing it. http://www.livestrong.com/article/313582-magnesium-bicarbonate-side-effects/ Agreed. One should 'start low and go slow' when adding magnesium bicar...

Re: OTC sleep med
File this under the 'If it's stupid but it works, it ain't stupid' category: Get a plain utility spray bottle or empty lotion or hand soap squirter bottle. Mix up a 50:50 solution of distilled water and Epsom Salts into it and put it in the shower. Before you go to bed, or if you wake up early and c...

Re: ...died in his/her sleep...
I've heard it said that the most dangerous thing we do most days is to get out of bed in the morning. But I agree that the last REM stage can be a killer, even for those without what is normally considered "medically-significant" numbers of upper-airway obstructions, as in significant enough to war...

Re: ...died in his/her sleep...
And while we're on this topic...I heard this joke not long ago:
'The apnea victim died peacefully in his sleep'
'His passengers died screaming in terror!'
It's a little gallows humor, but I got a chuckle when I heard it.

Re: OT: Osteoporosis & Premenopausal
SleepingUgly, I'm not too sure about the caffeine, but I'm absolutely certain about the magnesium. Also, unless your doctor ordered an Exatest for cellular magnesium levels (highly unlikely), then any blood test results are not very helpful unless the readings were very high or very low. The reason ...

Re: Low Vitamin D level appears to cause sleep apnea
Apparently the doctor is onto something.
A good sized study was done correlating the Vitamin D with the severity of sleep apnea. The correlation held true and deficiency tracked with severity.

Re: OT: Osteoporosis & Premenopausal
Second everything Janknitz said and would add the following to consider: MAGNESIUM. If you are deficient in magnesium you are at risk for all sorts of calcium related problems. Sadly, most Americans are deficient in Mg. You may also wish to have your primary order D3, Parathyroid hormone (PTH), and ...
