Re: Can CPAP hose length affect your pressure?
I don't think the hose length would matter. My analogy would be a water hose. The length of the hose determines how long before the pressure reaches the end, but once the hose is pressurized there is no distinction in the outlet pressure on a 6 to 10 foot hose. Now, the diameter might change things ...

Re: After few months I am stil unable to sleep with cpap
Everyone is different. I wouldn't trade nasal pillows. Although I admit that they are harder to adjust to at first. Of course, you do need a back up mask for those times when you are congested. I won't wear my standard nasal mask, except for when I am sick and can't breath through my nose. But back ...

This looks like a Brit source; don't know if they'll sell to us Yanks.

Re: OT - Statins and You
Not to keep plugging the trackyourplaque website, but... that entire program is based on doing a low cost calcium heart scan. You get an actual number which correlates to coronary plaque, and is probably. Got a low number, relax. Got a high number, time to take it seriously.

Re: After few months I am stil unable to sleep with cpap
Hi Pugsy, you know it is funny. I actually thought about trying to do that. See if I could scrap up spare parts and rebuild my Swift FX. But I was worried that the parts might now be new as claimed. Felt better buying an entirely new mask, and the 3B Willow fit the bill. It isn't Resmed, but it is p...

Re: OT - Statins and You
I don't think I'm alone in having both OSA and heart disease. But I think it is wise to take the lowest dose of statin possible. The rule I follow, or the goal (from Dr. Davis at trackyourplaque) is 60/60/60 (LDL < 60, HDL >60, and TGL<60). To reach that, for me, required a low dose statin (pravasta...

3B Willow Mask
Stay off meds!!! The better they work, the more dangerous they are. They are all addictive, and then you can't sleep without them. What is a 3B Willow mask? Never heard of it. Ann, I found it online. I lost health insurance last year with a job change. Not happy about that. So anything I do is out ...

Re: After few months I am stil unable to sleep with cpap
I was prescribed Zaleplon for first few weeks. Unlike other pills, it only lasts 4 hours and is non-addictive. The 4 hour limit is important. i would sleep with CPAP for 2-3 hours then wake up. If I took another type of pill at 2 a.m. I would be dysfunctional at work. With Zaleplon (Sonata) I am ale...

Re: Starting out with a few questions.
Julie, Yes you are right I suppose. Some adjust easily. My point was only that, for me, it was not pleasant. It took a stubborn wife and equally stubborn doctor to keep forcing me to read articles about the health hazard of not using CPAP. And only that constant pushing made be pull the machine and ...

Re: Starting out with a few questions.
Wow, I thought I was the norm. I had a terrible experience adjusting. I thought that was true for everyone. I tried really hard. After about 6 weeks I gave up, threw the mask and machine in a drawer. Then my doctor lectured me about the condition and told me I was increasing my odds of a stroke and ...

Re: Starting out with a few questions.
I'm new to this forum, but your question strikes a chord. I usually follow apneaboard.com, but cpaptalk looks like a bigger forum with more feedback. I am always surprised at how many people mention that they use CPAP when I tell them that I have sleep apnea. Until I started on CPAP, I had no clue t...
