Re: 5 months with not a single nights sleep...

I don't know how old you are, but for me, I got my cpap when I was 41. That means I slept every night (most nights anyway) for over 40 years and then all of a sudden I'm sleeping with this mask on. It takes time to get used to it. For me, the first 4-6 months were hell. I was like you, never getting...

Re: Woo-hoo! Slept w/o my chin strap last night!

Congrats! I was surprised how fast I learned to sleep without it. One thing that helped me was to learn to nose-breathe. I never even knew mouth-breathing was not optimal. Over the first 3-4 weeks I had to consciously remember to keep my mouth closed at all times and after that it became automatic. ...

Re: Oximeter questions

Also, most oximeters record a single night only. If you try recording a second night, it erases the first night. So forget about trying to record multiple nights. Also, no known software available to CPAP users can read the date on the device you have. Just use it one night and let them tell you ab...

Re: Oximeter questions

Thanks, but that is not the oximeter I'm using. The model 3012 has a gray thing you stick your finger into, you don't have to fold anything over. Tim is right in that there are 2 red lights on top and bottom, so maybe it doesn't matter?

Re: Anxiety to the Max

You might be able to get a prescription for some sleeping pills for a couple weeks to help out. I got a prescription but only used it once. If the anxiety is from not being used to the mask, then try putting the mask on (with machine on) while watching tv or reading. This may help you get accustomed...

Re: Who has felt absolutely fabulous after sleep Study titration

Yes, I had a similar experience and like 1tree, I was a little disappointed when the same thing didn't happen at home. I guess it's just that first time in years you get some really good oxygen at night is sort of a shock and then your body is sort of adapted to it and doesn't react as strongly. I t...

Oximeter questions

Sorry if these are dumb questions. I have an appointment next week with my sleep doc and I just got an oximeter from my DME to get data for that appt. It is a nonin model 3012. They didn't show me how to use it so I'm not sure if the part with the wire coming out goes on the top of my index finger o...

Internal nose pain with nasal mask

Several times while sleeping or upon waking up I've noticed I have some kind of pain inside my right nostril. It's always in the same area and is a somewhat sharp pain, but also kind of spread out over an area a little smaller than the size of the head of a thumb tack. I think I've solved it, becaus...

Nasal mask/Can someone look at my data please

Before I asked whether opening your mouth when using a nasal mask will show up as a leak on resscan. The answer seemed to be yes. As a follow up question, if your mouth is open while using a nasal mask, will the S9 still detect apnea events? The reason I ask is because several nights ago I used a ch...

Re: So......

So is your problem you can't find the right mask? If so, just keep trying new ones. I don't know how many are out there, but I'm guessing at least 20-30 different kinds of masks. I was getting depressed also, couldn't get my mask to work and I was past the initial 30 days. I brought it up to my slee...

Re: How many Resmed S9's DON'T have the bird sound ?

I have never noticed this sound. I'm wondering if it could be related to EPR, which I don't use. Especially with an EPR setting of 3, there would be a cycle between pressures on exhale and inhale, which might be audible in certain situations. Most people who complain of noises report that after put...

Will open mouth with nasal mask show up in leak numbers?

I've switched to the mirage fx nasal mask. I started off with a chin strap but stopped using it. There's only been one time (that I remember) where I woke up with my mouth open, and the leak numbers were much higher -- 95%ile was around 40, while usually its around 5-15. So is it true, as I'm assumi...

Worried about compliance

The first month of cpap was hell for me. Luckily, around the 30 day mark I had quite a breakthrough. I switched to a nasal mask (resmed mirage fx) after learning to nose breath, although I still used a chinstrap for a while. I had been using the quattro fx and just couldn't beat the leaks (my pressu...

Re: s9 adapt "Whoooooooo" noises on exhale

Yes, I have the same thing. I am fairly sure my machine was nice and quiet the first several days, then after about a week I noticed this noise. I wouldn't call it "noisy" at all, but it is pretty annoying. I wish I could make it go away somehow. If anyone finds a way please let us know.

What do the leak numbers mean?

For example, last night I had: Median - 0.0, 95th %ile - 7.2, Max - 20.4. A couple days ago I had: Median - 6.0, 95th %ile - 55.2, Max - 141.

Can someone tell me how to interpret these numbers?

Also, I don't really understand why they seem to be so vastly different?
