3 days after switching to APAP, feel bad or worse

Switched to APAP 3 days ago. Study titrated me at 5cm. Didn't work . Switched to 6cm w/ doc. Same . Tried 7cm on my own. same. And now just switched to APAP, 6-10cm, EPR of 2., EPR of 2. I only have data for two of the last 3 nights (forgot the card), but the two nights tell a similar story. I know ...

CA vs OA? How to tell?

Looking at my data in Sleepyhead, I'm wondering how the software knows whether an event is an OA or a CA? When I compare the flow rate chart of each, I don't see any significant difference. Both look like I stopped breathing, usually for 15-20 sec. How does it know/decide? Here's an example. Event 1...

Re: Need Help On What To Try Next

I took a closer look at my CA patterns and they do often correlate with two time periods: sleep onset and the last 30-45 minutes before final wake. Often have of them will be in the final 30 minutes. I wouldn't characterize my doc as against APAP, just more interested in the holy grail of a singular...

Re: Need Help On What To Try Next

Pugsy, Your guesses are similar to mine. First, I am male, but younger than I'd expect prostate-related problems (41 yrs). I'm really thinking that the urination need is simply a response to becoming awake enough to notice the need. First, if I awake 4 times then I have to pee four times. If I awake...

Re: Need Help On What To Try Next

Do you normally go to sleep right away when you mask up or do you spend some time awake? Ever since CPAP my fall asleep time isn't too bad (I generally suffer from sleep-onset insomnia, sometimes severely so). I'd say I my average fall asleep time is 30 min. Do you remember waking up for any reason...

Re: Need Help On What To Try Next

Can you please post your detailed graphs over 1 night showing Leak, Flow Limitation, Pressure, and Events. The behavior of the Flow Limitation graph in relation to the others will give a good indication about your pressure settings. A pressure of 6 is fairly low. this time i took it from sleepytime...

Re: Need Help On What To Try Next

Study rate was 15 AHI (but almost all during REM sleep) Get a copy of your sleep study and check what position you were sleeping in during REM. If you were sleeping on your back you might get significant relief by sleeping on your sides or stomach. This would be something good to look into and it m...

Re: Need Help On What To Try Next

Add: assuming that you don't suffer from COPD, Central Sleep Apnea Syndrome, or Heart problems, I would switch to APAP mode, set max pressure at 10 cm, min pressure at 6 cm, EPR = 3, no ramp, and try it for a few days. This may not solve your sleep fragmentation right away. thx for the suggestion. ...

Need Help On What To Try Next

I need some help deciding what to try next. Diagnosed with OSA last Feb. Study rate was 15 AHI (but almost all during REM sleep). Titration set pressure at 5. Started CPAP (ResMed S9 Autoset) w/ a Swift/FX mask. I've used it all night, every night since (except for a couple fully-congested sick days...

Re: help interpreting first set of data?

So now it's been about 3.5 months on cpap. Things have been progressing well through most of it, but the last week has been rough. I haven't even been looking at the data lately, but today I downloaded it to see what's going on. Today I'm feeling really bad, like I used to right before I started cpa...

Re: help interpreting first set of data?

Hmm, ResMed is interesting. Some of the summary numbers are pretty different. And perhaps more useful. Apnea Index: 3.2 -Obstructive: 1.3 -Central: 1.6 -Unknown: 0 Hypopnea index: 0.6 AHI: 3.8 This is for the first 30 days. Definitely lower numbers than sleepyhead. It also confirms Pugsy's read of t...

Re: help interpreting first set of data?

I loaded the data up into ResMed. I picked a recent day, just a few days ago and here's what I found: http://i.imgur.com/zC0r9.png THis looks like OSA events happening all the time to me. Am I reading this right? Somehow this graphical representation seems a lot more daunting than the calm-looking A...

Re: help interpreting first set of data?

pugsy, thanks for all that info. it really helps me understand what's going on. as soon as I read your words about awake breath holding I knew you were right. i do that a lot and notice it with the machine (sometimes i just leave it on my face even if i've awakened enough to read for a bit). yes, sl...
