Re: Cpap Pillow?

I use the CPAPMax pillow as well. I had to take out the removable center layer because it was too tall for my neck with it. But I like it and it has helped with side sleeping and not dislodging my mask.

Re: Insurance Companies are Stupid!

My mother's insurance repaired her 10 year old machine instead of replacing it as well, but they didn't ask for a new sleep study or new presription. However, I think that they were just biding their time to get rid of her since she was on Cobra at the time. They got their wish. Now she has a repair...

Re: My myriad of CPAP problems / Problems in general.

Sorry, I didn't notice that the air was blowing into your eyes. Try an eye mask or eye shield. With the Swift FX not covering the nose, you should be able to pick one up for around $1 out of the bins at Target. I wear one because we have a Skylight in our bedroom that bothers me sometimes (lightning...

Re: My myriad of CPAP problems / Problems in general.

I recommend that you see an endocrinologist about the menstrual issues. Have them check for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Despite what the web says, you don't have to be fat to have it. It can also cause mood swings from the strange hormonal levels. If you do, check out the SoulCysters message board ...

Re: women with apnea

I am a woman with apnea and I am relatively young, 35. I won't call that young, but certainly not post-menopausal. My apnea was actually worse than my husband's per the numbers, and per my husband and a former roomate, I only ever snore when I am congested. So I broke the male and snoring boundaries...

Brazilian, Please be sure to post the next time you have someone able to take her donations. I would like to help if my budget and finances still allow at that time.

Re: Little Larissa - please read

I'm new to the forum and just read this story. The generosity and kindness of all involved is very heart-warming.

I'm wondering, as of 2012, does she still need help getting additional supplies for her machine like filters, masks, hoses, etc., or has a local source been found?

Re: A Night in Hospital with CPAP

When my husband had back surgery, the hospital allowed him to use his own machine. In fact, they were very pleased that he brought it. The RT had to check it before it could be set up. The RT also filled it with distilled water. I suppose you could take yours and if they let you use it, great. If th...

My insurance is 5 years for a new machine. You will need to check with your coverage or call your insurance to find out for sure what yours is.

Re: Thank the person who convinced you to treat your sleep apnea

My husband thought that I should get one because I talk in my sleep, but I put him off until I finished my TMJD treatment saying if it failed and I needed surgery my whole jaw would be rearranged which would impact the airway. It was my endocrinologist who referred me after I developed severe insomn...

Re: Second night was horrible

I had to change my ramp time to 5 minutes and eventually stop using my ramp because I felt like I was suffocating when it was ramping and I am a definite nose breather. My pressure is pretty low most of the time on my APAP (around 8.2 for 90% pressure), but the ramp starts at 4 and that was just too...

Re: Horrible experience

My first sleep study was so uncomfortable and I got so little sleep, almost all of it stage 1, that I refused to go back for titration, so my sleep doctor did at an home titration. It has made a world of difference being in my own bed with my own machine and a mask my DME carefully fitted instead of...

Re: Great quote from my ENT

My Sleep Doctor is at a Teaching Hospital. She gave me an APAP. She is also involved in research on Home Studies vs in lab studies. She said I wasn't a great candidate for my initial study to be a home study because I have asthma (she is a pulmonologist), but once we did the initial study and I refu...

Re: OSA AND TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT SURGERY

My husband had back surgery, not knee surgery, and his surgeon gave him the patient controlled pain meds but not as much as they would have given a man of his size without OSA. You may find it is enough for you, you may not. It also may be a surgeon preference issue. My husband brought his machine t...

Re: Dueling CPAP - Quick Poll

My husband and I both have CPAP. He has had his longer, about 4 or 5 years now. I just got mine in December. Jenn, My husband had back surgery with CPAP. Take the machine and mask to the hospital with you. The hospital respiratory therapist will check out the machine, fill with distilled water, and ...
