Re: Doxepin for sleep maintanence insomnia
I take a low dose of Amitriptyline, also an antidepressant, because I have trouble maintaining sleep due to menopause. It does work--I still wake up at night, but not nearly as often.

Re: Detaching Philips System One humidifier
Thanks everyone, I got it disconnected and the machine fits into my luggage now. I swear sometimes that machine is like a security blanket.

Detaching Philips System One humidifier
I'm traveling again tomorrow and still have not ordered a travel CPAP, so I have to take my Philips Respironics System One machine along. I swear it's like lugging a concrete block. Anyway, I was looking at it and figured it would take a lot less space if I removed the humidifier. I'm going to the s...

Re: I have GOT to ditch this thing
Is somebody bragging about losing weight AND being in Tokyo? I'm happy for you, but just a little bit jealous. Maybe you need a little luggage caddy with wheels. Losing weight was hard work and so is traveling. When I get home, I'm going to have to cook up some solution to the cement block, hopeful...

I have GOT to ditch this thing
I swear my Respironics machine was like dragging a cement block across Tokyo today. I suspect I might not actually need it any more since I lost a great deal of weight, but I'm apparently addicted enough to need it to sleep. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good, LIGHTWEIGHT APAP unit.

Re: I'm going to try a night without CPAP
Carmen, you have a machine that could also analyze your sleep with it's data reporting: Encore Data Management and Reporting On-board memory has been added to the BiPAP as well as storing information on a generic SD Memory card and reads through any SD card reader. Use EncoreViewer Software to moni...

I'm going to try a night without CPAP
The one sleep study I had before starting CPAP featured me mostly not sleeping and afterwards they told me I didn't have apnea because my AHI was only about 6. Fortunately I had a doctor who noticed that almost all the incidents happened during REM and tried me out on CPAP. No adjustment problems fo...

Mine's always that that inhale/exhale sound. My husband jokingly calls it Darth Vader.

Re: Getting used to not sleeping on my back
Rather than learning not to sleep on your back, I would encourage you to figure out what settings you need to comfortably sleep in that position. I need only about an 8 for side sleeping but need at least a 12 on my back and my apap sometimes takes the pressure up as high as 18. The reason I think t...

Re: Why Sleep Apnea Victims Cannot Sleep On Their Backs?
Having just spent way too much time in the hospital, my advice is to learn what pressure settings work for you on your back and learn to sleep on your back. When you're trapped in a hospital bed with drains and IVs, you really don't have any other choice of position and the hospital respiratory peop...

Re: Cottonmouth--ugh
This may be a good first move--I'm on a whole collection of new medications and should probably check to make sure my fluid intake is high enough.gasp wrote:You may want to rule out new medications and/or dehydration (even mild).

Cottonmouth--ugh
I've been using CPAP with nasal pillows for over a year with no particular adjustment problems and loved being able to breath through my nose and loved not waking up with a dry "cotton" mouth and a sore throat. Fast forward to this year when, after spending most of a month in the hospital with a med...

Re: Humidifier question - Do you need to use distilled water or
I used distilled water until my husband tested it for dissolved solids (his job has him testing a lot of water). Turns out that the dissolved solids in the so-called distilled water we were buying was just about the same as our tap water. Now we have unusually soft tap water, so your mileage may var...

Re: Frequent awakeners with mild OSA, has cpap helped?
I used to wake frequently at night--a year ago I was seriously waking up every half hour or so. When I was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea, I had high hopes that CPAP would help that. What happened, though, was that I started sleeping more, but still woke up all night long--instead of sleeping five...
