Re: Greatly improving our sleep monitoring?
Hi RocketGirl, I got an oximeter right away and put it on and slept 1/2 night with and 1/2 night without my xPAP treatment. OMG. It showed how much of a train wreck I was. Of course, I knew I was a train wreck without treatment so it showed me in quantifiable spO2 and heart rate numbers what I alrea...

Re: Cardiopulmonary Risks & Sleep Apnea & CPAP
Someone posted a link here to a study showing CPAP improved AFib. Also, it's been shown that treating OSA improves BP regulation. For me, after xPAP started the perceived afib really made a drop, though the doctor still offered a Holter monitor because "You may just not feel them". My hypertension ...

Re: Is this REM sleep?
I was reading the reviews on Amazon for the Zeo and saw one of the chief issues was how (in)accurately it identifies sleep stages, more than one person saying it said they were sleeping when obviously awake. One other pointed out it has a recorded resolution of 1 minute, thus missing brief arousals....

Thank you! I'll check that out. I was looking about for something like that.DocWeezy wrote:...However, what I DID do to get a better handle on if I was having my REM or deep sleep was to get a ZEO sleep monitor

Is this REM sleep?
The higher respiration (and when on my CMS50E shows higher heart rate during these periods too) seems to me to indicate REM sleep. Would I be right? http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/j437/MaxDarkside/RemSleep.jpg I notice that during longer "sessions" on the APAP, I can have as many as 5 periods. ...

Re: New to cpap (2 weeks)
If you had little REM prior to this, you could be going through REM rebound. Oh, thank you, SleepingUgly! I searched for this and found much to read. I was low on REM before and now I notice in my breathing / O2 / HR at least 4 quite long REM "sessions" per night, every night. I think I"m catching ...

Re: My ears and face are killing me!
How you tolerate pressures above 15 cm H2O probably has to do with your physiology (structure of your body). I cannot tolerate above 15. I went to 20 cm H2O one time on the recommendation of a respiratory therapist when I was sleeping on my back and the machine was not resolving significant events. ...

Re: memory and cognitive relationship with apnea
I had cognitive impairment and "Alzheimer's" like events. I had two significant "Alzheimer's" events after diagnosis with moderate to severe sleep apnea; 1. I was in Target (a large department store) with my wife and son and wandered off to another isle looking for something, but then I didn't know ...

Re: What symptoms do you have?
My clues, generally in order: 1. Snored. Occasionally quite bad 2. Wife said I stopped breathing at night 3. Awoke frequently at night 4. High Blood Pressure for no known reason (might have been from a bacteriological infection) 5. Daytime grogginess, severe at times, increased caffeine and nicotine...

My respiratory therapist started me at 3.5 humidity on my ResMed, which seems about right for me. I've played with it a bit, set to 3.0 or 4.0 to no particular effect I could sense.

Re: Going on the hose without sleepstudy with Intellipap Auto
Really great graphs you have there, is that from Sleepyhead? Yes. When you have a history of such graphs to look at, making good decitions about your treatment must get much easier. Do your pressure needs vary from day to day? It does help to see what is going on, longer term, over a night and also...

Re: Going on the hose without sleepstudy with Intellipap Auto
I think an AHI of 8 is good if you had much higher in your sleep study and eliminated the bulk of them at the start. Over time, as you adjust to the machine, yours may go lower as mine did (see below, last night being around 0.75 (woot!)). You can see I started around AHI of 6 on the machine (sleep ...

Re: Should AHI/AI/HI stats be decreasing over time for newbie CP
Mine is improving over time. My AHI started out around 6 and has been declining now to about 0.75. The big switch about mid-way through the SleepyHead chart is me finding a way to sleep on my side / tummy.

My doctor did not know where to start me, so he prescribed 5-15 on auto, which turned out to be correct.

Re: Howdy
Hi Sloweddi, I didn't have a heart attack, thank goodness. I didn't have any pain at all. I was alone, so I didn't get a chest zap either. Actually, the opposite. PURE EUPHORIA. It was wonderful (tho deadly). I self-resolved somehow (about 0.1% chance of that) by fighting it hard, I think the adrena...
