Re: Did you feel instantly better?

I'm pretty much a newbie. I felt a bit better the first night, but noticeably after a week, then muchly after a month and now I'm into this (only) 7 weeks and I feel a lot better. I'm still groggy during the day but I think it's because I'm catching up on quality sleep that I missed out on for years...

Re: how do you get over the fear:

I "died" in a parking lot, so for me this was do or die. So I did. I feel SO MUCH BETTER! OMG. I was ignorant starting out, but fortunately they gave me a ResMed S9 machine with data capabilities. Adding a few more whiz-bang data gathering gadgets, I have excellent metrics on my sleep. I now sleep 7...

AHI of 0.85 on 7 hrs. I'll take every night of < 1.0 I can get! (does a happy-dance).

Re: Not the Best Night, a Bit Odd

OK, a better night's sleep. Another Zeo score (ZQ) of 78, about what someone 20 years younger than me would normally get. I didn't have the string of events, tho I self medicated identically this 3rd night. I would say the Zeo's classification of sleep stage is quite often off by one level. I was aw...

Re: new to sleep apnea

Thanks for the encouragement. I've started having heart palpitations during the day during the past year. They think the apnea, even though mild, may be causing this. It could be caused by apnea, yes, or so my neurologist suggested. As I got hours sleeping on my machine not only the treatment helpe...

Re: new to sleep apnea

Hi Heather, I'm new to this too. I've been on my machine for 7 weeks. You will get a lot of help here. The people are WONDERFUL. Use whatever mask is most comfortable for you. As an encouragement, I was in rather bad shape starting into this, medically. Look at my signature in the lower left of this...

Re: MASK PROBLEMS!!!

You may be able to find replacement cushions and flaps pretty cheaply on e-bay. It might be cheaper or easier than dealing with the DME. And I could support our sponsor here and order them here. I see they have the face cushion for mine and I think that since I've gotten so much helpful value here,...

Re: MASK PROBLEMS!!!

Cloudy doesn't hurt the mask. When you can no longer get a good seal, you need a replacement.....Mine lasts 3-4 months. OK, thanks. I forget what size mine is, I didn't get the package, but I searched around the web and if the dimension of the hard plastic big part of the mask, from center of the g...

Re: MASK PROBLEMS!!!

-perhaps the face cushion has gone opaque The DME never told me when a mask is "worn out", just that my insurance will pay for a new one every 6 months. Is this a criterion... opaque face "gasket"? I can order just that I think, rather than replace the entire mask, as mine after 7 weeks is noticeab...

Yes. My last Dr.'s visit, he and I went over everything and he was quite confident in my understanding, released me to do as I will and said "See you in a year. Let me know if you have any questions in the meantime".

Re: Swallowing so much air and waking up

When I get above 13 I start leaking air into my tum-tum. A resp. therapist wanted me to go to 20 to whack a few more OAs and CAs when on my back and when I did, well, I changed my machine in a matter of minutes back to a max of 15 because I was inflating like a hot air balloon. I learned to (mostly)...

Re: Not the Best Night, a Bit Odd

I'm not sure what pressure range you are using. 6-14 cm H2O. Works pretty well for me. I was 5-14 but last night bumped up the bottom to 6 as 5 was for me to get used to the machine ("Kiddie Ride" I called it to the Resp. Therapist ). Now that I am acclimated to it, 5 is too wimpy and I see in my c...

Re: Not the Best Night, a Bit Odd

That's odd. Do they show that way in ResScan? ResScan shows "data skew" sometimes but it usually just sets the flag to the right by a consistant amount, sometime a minute. I've never seen one marked short. I wonder if that's sleephead. I don't have ResScan, maybe I should get it. You see the marker...
