Re: Resmed VPAP S9 Auto Pressure settings
I'm on the run today but would like to post a few general questions re: VPAP Auto versus bilevel. Is there anyone out there who has gone from the auto to the bilevel, permanently? What are your reasons? Does anyone using VPAP auto suspect that the pressure fluctuations themselves can cause wakefulne...

Re: Resmed VPAP S9 Auto Pressure settings
I'm in awe of your knowledge, folks. And I'm feeling my resistance to technology. But what I do have is the 4 page ResScan software report which the doctor printed out and gave to me yesterday. It only covers the last week, since I'd been having to change pressures. Is there a way I can scan this in...

Re: Resmed VPAP S9 Auto Pressure settings
Plain CPAP is very uncomfortable for me. I'm certainly interested in trying a straight bipap mode on my machine. I think I'd like to wait a few days, then give it a shot if the centrals aren't going down (before running it by my doc, actually). My question now is, how would my pressures: IPAP 14, SP...

Re: Resmed VPAP S9 Auto Pressure settings
A further question for y'all: why would a regular Bipap machine tend to be better for someone with centrals than an auto vpap such as mine?

Re: Resmed VPAP S9 Auto Pressure settings
Rested Gal: No, the Doc didn't mention that at all. They want me to stay at the same pressures for another four to six weeks. The apneas are now recording entirely as centrals, but they (I also saw the Attending) aren't sure what sort of events the machine is actually reporting as centrals. The doc ...

Re: Resmed VPAP S9 Auto Pressure settings
Dear Grandpap (I could be older than you are) - I'm far from being offended! Just got back from my five-hour long drive back from my doc. I'll take the time to analyze what you've said tomorrow when I'm more rested. But I think you're correct in the general gist of what you say! I've been monkey-ing...

Re: Resmed VPAP S9 Auto Pressure settings
Pugsy - I looked at the thread - amazing. Firehope's situation is very much like mine - even the numbers are similar. How can I obtain those graphs to post on this site? I will try my IP at 13 tonight. But so I'm clear - the EP at 7 makes no difference?

Re: Resmed VPAP S9 Auto Pressure settings
BTW - how do I get introduce those cool 'quote bars' into my post?
Also - I'm getting the readings off my machine, and I assume the 16/15 AHI means per hour.

Re: Resmed VPAP S9 Auto Pressure settings
Did you have any centrals mentioned in either your initial sleep study or the titration sleep study? Those 16/15 rate numbers...is that all night or per hour as in Apnea Index? With a predominance of Centrals I wouldn't be raising the pressure..it won't help centrals and could make them worse. Pugsy...

Re: Resmed VPAP S9 Auto Pressure settings
OP here, Riverlea. I like the idea of getting the Resmed software. Will do. In the meantime I was able to figure out how to read the AHI breakdown on my machine: the rate was running at around 16, and 15 of those were central sleep apneas. Is it still a good idea to raise the EP a notch? I tried rai...

Re: Resmed VPAP S9 Auto Pressure settings
Robysue, Thank you so much for your detailed reply to my question. At present I don't know how the AHI breaks down. I'll ask the doc when I see him next week. In the meantime, is there any way I can glean this info myself from the machine? BTW, I like your suggestion concerning the EPAP. I know I ca...

Pros and Cons re: hose management
I'm considering getting a hose management system, primarily because the vent on my nasal pillows is noisy and blows cold air. I'm wondering what systems people have had luck with - or bad luck with. Seems to me that if there's too sharp an angle from the mask up to the hose manager, the hose could '...

Ibuprophen and Sleep Apnea
My impression is that when I use ibuphrophen (for arthritis pain) it makes my sleep apnea worse. This seems to be as true now that I'm on a machine as it was before treatment began. I once read that ibuprophen can worsen sleep apnea because it causes muscle relaxation (hence airway collapse), and in...

Resmed VPAP S9 Auto Pressure settings
Riverlea here. I'm doing lots of reading on this site and on the web and am s-l-o-w-l-y coming to understand my machine. I want to ask members who have this machine about their pressure settings. What is 'typical', if there is such a thing? I'm having a big aerophagia problem and the IPAP is certain...
