Re: Going camping...
When "car-camping" I use a long cord and plug the CPAP into the vehicle's utility socket (aka cig. lighter). This sure seems like the simplest and cheapest solution for me! One question, though...does the power level drop if I run, say, 20' of wire from the car battery to the CPAP machine...and doe...

Re: Going camping...
Going on Safari with CPAP There is no valid reason for anyone with a lifestyle that involves lots of outdoor activity and travel, even if it includes times spent in very primitive places, to stop, cut back, or change because they develop apnea and must use a CPAP-type device when they sleep. Campin...

Re: Going camping...
Thanks for all the discussion....the points conveyed have all been great. I've actually got a jumpstart-type battery pack, I'll have to look at its stats and capacity. I could also, as pointed out by somebody, plug it into my cigarette lighter and take a 20 minute drive once a day at 55 mph. That wo...

Re: Going camping...
Looks like I'm back to my blue-topped deep-cycle Optima idea, and then every 2 or 3 days driving the 1 hour back to our cabin for recharge. Is there a reason you can't charge it off the truck you mentioned? I'd love to charge it off the truck, with jumper cables, and wouldn't mind at all idling for...

Re: Going camping...
I camp with a 23' hybrid and a pickup truck...no electricity. A small solar charger looks like a no-go, apparently I would need a 40 watt solar array to recharge a group 35 battery in one day. Looks like I'm back to my blue-topped deep-cycle Optima idea, and then every 2 or 3 days driving the 1 hour...

Re: Going camping...
So, I search for a nearby Optima dealer and it turns out he is in my small hometown and I know him. He's familiar with sleep apnea, and offers to call his Optima rep. Well, the rep recommends I buy a deep cycle wheelchair battery, a DCM35 group, for $110. Then, get myself a solar (or daylight) power...

Re: Going camping...
Not gonna chase him down for answers Went out to dinner with friends, and just got back. Sorry I didn't respond as rapidly as you expected. I read elsewhere that a yellow or blue-topped Optima deep cycle battery will tolerate deep discharge without harming its life expectancy. So, I can go from the...

Re: Going camping...
Thanks for the replies and the links. I call the DME office and they refer me to Radio Shack. Radio Shack says all I need is a 60 watt or bigger inverter. Hard-wired to my battery, plug it in, and you're good to go. This sure seems a lot easier than the threads referenced above, especially for a guy...

Can I buy an inverter, hard wire it to a deep cycle RV battery, and run my machine for a few nights?

Re: I'm a light sleeper and my boyfriend needs CPAP
The new ResMed S9 Elite or AutoSet makes almost no noise at all. It isn't any louder than listening to normal breathing. You have to put your hand in front of the exhaust hole to make sure that it is actually on. The Phillips Respironics Machine that I use (see profile below) makes almost no noise....

Re: Anxiety during the day after using CPAP
Thyroid issue for sure. If your doc is not an endocrinologist then get one. Also, ask what your TSH, T3, and T4 numbers are. A good endocrinologist will interpret and explain these to you. Learn about the new normal TSH range, which is significantly tighter than the old standard. Anxiety, heart-raci...

Re: SleepyHead 0.9.2 for Mac OS X
UNBELIEVABLE! I posted in this thread about my inability to download data into 0.9.2 just a few days ago. After trying several things, unsuccessfully, I was resigned to wait a while until bugs got worked out. Just for fun I repeated the steps I took a few days ago, and VOILA, I am now back in the Sl...
