Re: Aussie Newbie Intro
Hi Chikorita It's a bit of a roller coaster when the diagnosis hits you! I have learned a lot from this forum since being diagnosed last August, and learnedI got stung badly with a hugely overpriced machine but you live and learn and know what not to do nex time! I live in Brisbane and am surprised ...

Wind Tunnel Noise
Hi Everyone Once again I seek your counsel........I have two masks so I can alternate pressure points and avoid pressure sores developing especially across the bridge of my nose. Once is a Swift FX mask that covers the nose but not the mouth and the other is the nasal pillows that rest just under th...

Re: Using tap water in a pinch
I have always used tap water and rinse out the humidifier with white vinegar weekly. I have not noticed any down side to this, I asked the provider of machine and they were perfectly OK with tap water being used.

Re: What's with the drooling?
No I'm not wearing a dental appliance nor my chin strap now but since I drooled with it or without it, I guess I'm more curious about why I don't reflexively swallow it. Thank you for your advice, appreciated as always

What's with the drooling?
Hi Everyone I have another question, very happy with my CPAP machine and everything is going swimmingly with my sleeping. However, I have noticed I drool while I'm asleep and it is quite a bit. I don't recall drooling before CPAP entered my life probably because I was a true mouth breather and my mo...

Switching Masks regularly
Once again I have a question or two for the knowledgeable crowd here I have purchased a nasal pillow mask and after some tweaking, found the right size pillows that sit comfortably in my nose and got a few good nights sleep, however I now find that even if there is no leak (that I can tell) it has b...

Pressure Sores
I have been using the same mask for over 4 months now and in the last month I have developed two rather unsightly pressure sores on my forehead where the top buckles hold the straps and a permanent red mark on the bridge of my nose (the skin has come very close to breaking down and becoming a sore)....

Re: Day four, Arggghhh, cheer me up.......
You are in the very early stage of adjusting to the whole CPAP and OSA caper. It is a big adjustment having something on your face all night. I was never a back sleeper in my life but now since I have a mask it seems that I now roll naturally on my back when I fall asleep which is traditionally whil...

Re: Is weight something to be bothered about?
Thank you everyone for your assistance. I will concentrate on completing the small remaining study stuff and then commence reducing my weight in a safe and slow manner.

Is weight something to be bothered about?
My OSA diagnosis mentioned as an aside that the "patient needed to lose a significant amount of weight" - I have been on the CPAP therapy for about two months now and have regained most of my energy. I am just on the tail end of a graduate diploma - one more assignment and one exam remaining and the...

Re: scared to death
You are on the way to being well and healthy again....I had two sleep studies, one to establish yes indeed, I did have OSA in a big way and then another to work out my needs on a CPAP, ie air pressure etc etc. Read all the information you can on this site and you will be very well informed. Best of ...

Re: Need advice please
I think almost all of us take the mask off a few times in the first few weeks. I stopped doing it when the air pressure was adjusted to automatic and then the CPAP determined how much air I really needed which was higher than the initial prescription, after that, I didn't take the mask off. Adding a...

Re: the buckles on your chin strap - I have a chin strap with velcro straps that join at the top of my head (no buckles) and its made of neoprene so its soft to the touch, I am not bothered by the chin strap but the drooling is another matter
