Re: SmartStart Not Working Properly

My pressure is low to begin with (4-10 range), so it's possible that the pressure isn't high enough when it happens. I can't tell if it's just blowing low levels of air or if it's therapy pressure or not-- all I know is that it's loud and it annoys me so I turn the thing off manually (so I also don'...

SmartStart Not Working Properly

The SmartStart on my ResMed S9 Auto Set is enabled. The air starts blowing when I put the mask on. The problem is that when I take the mask off in the middle of the night (which sometimes happens), the airflow does not stop. In a sleepy stupor I usually end up holding the On/Off button down for abou...

Re: Using CPAP when sick/allergies

Thanks, all. I had turned the humidifier DOWN, thinking that a higher humidity would make my nose runnier and harder to deal with the pillows. I will try cranking it up tonight and probably take some cold meds to boot. I used to be a mouth breather before I started on CPAP but with the nasal pillows...

Using CPAP when sick/allergies

Any tips for what to do when you are sick and/or having major allergy issues? I had been doing really well and using my CPAP for an average of 8 hours a night, but last night was only 3 hours because I am either getting sick or having an allergic reaction to the season change. I am going to get anot...

Re: First Night w/ResMed S9 Auto Set - What do I do!?

I slept for ELEVEN hours! This wasn't my first night on CPAP, I had about a week and a half on my old machine, but last night was much better than the previous week. I think I finally have the masked sized appropriately. Also, after abut a week or so i plan to look at the data and see if having it o...

Re: First Night w/ResMed S9 Auto Set - What do I do!?

Thanks everyone. As always, you've been very helpful. I think I will start with a tighter range because I do think I would be freaked out if it jumped way higher than I am used to on the first night with it. I'll let you know how it goes!!!

Re: First Night w/ResMed S9 Auto Set - What do I do!?

So is it safe to keep it at 4-20 for the first few nights and see what my AHI number is before thinking about changing it? Maybe that's what I need - a variable rate-- i've just been at the same pressure for the whole time i have been using the CPAP but still feeling tired. maybe it's because i do n...

Re: First Night w/ResMed S9 Auto Set - What do I do!?

If I keep the maximum fairly low, and see that my AHI number is not good, can I fiddle with it then? Or should I just give it a try at 20 and hope the machine customizes itself to my needs?

Re: First Night w/ResMed S9 Auto Set - What do I do!?

Pugsy- exactly that kind of stuff!

So the auto function makes it to where if I put the minimum at 6 or something, and max 20, it will only go higher than 6 if the machine detects that you need it, right?

Re: First Night w/ResMed S9 Auto Set - What do I do!?

I actually did just download the software and the clinician's manual. There are so many optional settings on there, so I am wondering if anyone could comment on what are the most important things that I should want to see- I know AHI is important...what else should I care about right off the bat?

First Night w/ResMed S9 Auto Set - What do I do!?

I just received my ResMed S9 Auto Set and it was set at at a range of 4-20. Up till now I have only been using a regular (not auto) and I have been using at a setting of 7. How do I set my new machine to work as a non-auto machine and set it to a 7. I would ideally like to use it at the setting that...

Re: Can I buy my own CPAP machine? (USA)

Thanks again to everyone. I had cpap.com send an Rx request to my psychiatrist this morning just in case, and it turns out both he AND the sleep doctor faxed in the Rx today, so I should be getting my new machine in 3-5 days. I am SUPER excited!

Re: Can I buy my own CPAP machine? (USA)

OK, of course now I am getting the runaround from the doctor's office. I called yesterday and they claimed that they hadn't received the Rx request from cpap.com, so I had them send the request again, this time to the attention of the CPAP department woman. I got an email today saying cpap.com STILL...

Re: Which CPAP do you recommend for me based on my info?

Thanks, everyone, especially for the link to the software. cpap.com is contacting my doctor for an Rx, hopefully they won't raise a fuss and it will go smoothly.
