This happened with my Z1 when I tried to use both the battery and external power. When I checked the instructions, it said to use either, not both. I now remove the Z1 from the cradle whenever charging the battery.

The wattage rating of the brick is the maximum. It will only draw the wattage it needs to provide the needed output plus some loss. I've noticed the air smells like whatever the machine is sitting on or has picked up in the past. Cleaners, polish, campground smoke, etc. If the source is no longer present, changing the filter does the job.
