Re: Sleep Apnea, to treat or not to treat!!!

Roster: You will have to contact the moderator of this forum and perhaps he/she will remove me if he shares your concerns. Did you make note that I personally plan to give CPAP a good honest try and will report my experience. The replies here convinced me!!!! The $14,000 local fee for a cash sleep s...

Re: Sleep Apnea, to treat or not to treat!!!

Thanks again for the nice posts and your concern. Blackspinner, how does the Canadian health system deal with Sleep Apnea. Does everyone get the care they think they need or are there limits? Does it differ by Provence? Your situation seems ideal, with you own machine but do you need a prescription ...

Re: Sleep Apnea, to treat or not to treat!!!

Thanks again for the concern of all of you. Last night I again spent the entire night wearing my borrowed Respironics M series. I have now tried it for about six nights. In the next week or two I will go for the overnight study to get my machine set up properly for my specific situation. I will see ...

Re: Sleep Apnea, to treat or not to treat!!!

Notmuffy: Have you ever seen numbers on percentage of people over 50 if tested are found to have Sleep Apnea. If you tested a few hundred people off the street in that age group, I have heard the rate may be 40 or 50% with the higher numbers being at the older end of the scale. But I do not really k...

Re: Sleep Apnea, to treat or not to treat!!!

Thanks Sleepingugly, DoriC, Jersey Girl and Pugsy for your comments. It was nice to wake up and read them. And thanks too for your real concern for me. I still do use the oxygen and would welcome some comments on my oximetry results as I may be interpreting them wrong. I included them in a post a fe...

Re: Sleep Apnea, to treat or not to treat!!!

My sincere apology to anyone I have offended!!! I do not want to offend anyone. There have been numerous comments made here that tilt me toward trying CPAP and I think this is a good discussion. But it is hard to take some of the insults and attacks that I doubt any of you would make if this were no...

Re: Sleep Apnea, to treat or not to treat!!!

It must go without saying from a few recent posts that many on this forum never ever eat too much, exercise too little, chat on a cell phone while driving, exceed posted speed limits, much less participates in any risky sport. Risks that could kill us are all around and we all pick and choose. Phil

Re: Sleep Apnea, to treat or not to treat!!!

Lizistired, The Oxygen concentrators can be had for $300 to $500 but my insurance pays to rent one for me. Weezy, your point is well taken. Something else I wanted to add. I have had high PSA for years but never any Prostate Cancer. But due to my seeming higher risk for prostate cancer I have read a...

Re: Sleep Apnea, to treat or not to treat!!!

Thanks so much for all these replies. There are many caring people on this forum!!!! I was put off by the almost evangelical ferver of a few of the posts but I made some snide remarks about the equipment so maybe I deserved it !!! Anyway I want to clear up a few things. First, I am a 64 year old MWM...

Sleep Apnea, to treat or not to treat!!!

Here are some thoughts from someone new to this forum. I have been diagnosed with moderate to severe sleep apnea. But I unlike many on this forum, I feel fine and have no symptoms other than loud snoring which my wife tolerates. I dread the thought of lying in bed nightly looking like a military fig...

Oxygen alone verses CPAP

I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea in 2009 with an AHI index of 33.7. Also Oxygen desaturation was 81%. Due to my not wanting to go with CPAP, my Dr put me on Oxygen while sleeping with the Concentrator set a 2. I have used the Oxygen nightly since 2009 and twice have had overnight home Oximetry tests...
