Re: Feel Much Worse on ASV: Help?

Anyways...getting back on track here..... The hygiene discussion did remind me of something I didn't mention in my original post here. My latest doc also diagnosed me with Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder (DSPD). Her advice for me was not to fight it but rather to go to bed whenever I feel tired. (This ...

Re: Feel Much Worse on ASV: Help?

Help was offered: ITYS You chose not to take it (or believe it). Sorry, but that's inaccurate. As I noted earlier in this thread, I tried getting on a very regular sleep schedule. It didn't help. Nor does it explain why I feel worse on xPAP in any way, manner, shape, or form. Yes it is, no you didn...

Re: Feel Much Worse on ASV: Help?

Hi there, Sorry you're feeling so crummy! I've been there (and am still there actually) - it's not a good feeling when doctors can't figure things out. Just know that you're not alone and we're here to help as much as we can. Basics: Can you post the rest of your settings? Does ASV make you feel wo...

Re: Feel Much Worse on ASV: Help?

I'm terrified... Your story mirrors mine, except I went so far as MMA surgery on top. The ASV is making me feel awful and I've tried every medication, complimentary therapy, settings change, you name it. Some doctors shrug and say CFS/MS. But then why do I feel *worse* on ASV despite my Complex Sle...

Re: Feel Much Worse on ASV: Help?

Thanks again to everyone for the responses. My answers to the questions are below. For the sake of clarity, let me rephrase my original post into two questions, since I think all the Q&A so far really only addresses the first question: 1) Why, other than apnea, do I experience fatigue and sleepiness...

Re: Feel Much Worse on ASV: Help?

I may be shooting in the dark but going through several med changes with antidepressants can make you feel bad, particularly if you have been doing it for quite awhile. Yeah, I definitely can relate to that. Unfortunately, that isn't the culprit here. Most of those medication changes have been duri...

Re: Feel Much Worse on ASV: Help?

Do you have copies of the prior sleep studies? If so, what do they say about arousals and the cause? If the arousal rate is high, this could contribute to feeling lousy since your sleep would be fragmented. Yes, I have them all. Almost all of the arousals are attributed to apnea. In one study, I ha...

Feel Much Worse on ASV: Help?

Hi friends, I’ve posted occasionally over the past 4 years but am at the end of my rope, so I thought I would try again to see if folks have any suggestions or at least can relate to my experience. Short story: after 6 sleep studies across 3 sleep centers (including Stanford), an oral appliance, CPA...

Re: ASV: Is PR System 1 More Comfortable Than Older Model?

Well, my DME couldn't get the ResMed, and I didn't fight it. I'm on a PRS1 DS960 ASV now, and I can attest that it is vastly quieter than the old REMstar behemoth. As for comfort, it's probably less so. IPAP seems to be quite a bit higher, and I do notice that my waveforms and the slopes of the pres...

Re: UPPP Experience

My question to the folks who went for the surgery (either UPPP or anything beyond the septoplasty). I understand that the surgery didn't cure your OSA, but did you have any of the scary complications we all read about such as: -Having to re-learn how to drink/eat -Long recovery period with a lot of...

Re: UPPP Experience

I had a reduction of turbinates, a trimming of my uvula, a tonsillectomy, a lingual tonsillectomy, and a base of tongue reduction. (Naming the specific procedures seems slightly more useful to me than the "UPPP" umbrella term.) The collective impact was no improvement in my apnea, although I snore m...

Re: Nuvigil

I take it. It takes the edge off of some of my sleepiness (which for me is substantially worse when I'm on xPAP therapy). I've only been on it for a matter of weeks, but I've read that some of those "stimulating" side effects you mentioned will subside.

Re: Post-Surgery Blues: Scoring Question

It occurred to me that I should post an update in this old thread of mine—mostly for people who might be considering an oral appliance and the OASYS specifically. Last month, I had my 6th (!!!) PSG—ostensibly to do three things: 1. Test whether the OASYS oral appliance was resolving my apnea 2. Look...

Re: ASV: Is PR System 1 More Comfortable Than Older Model?

Impressive. Thanks! You have me almost convinced to go with the S9—that is, if my DME can get it. They have to special order ASVs either way, and I'm in insurance limbo for the time being as it is.
