Re: System One Users - Show me your backsides
Yeah, the gray foam filters just get stuffed in the little rectangle and stay there of their own accord. They stay put pretty well, but if you also put the white disposable filter in there, the whole thing tends to pop out. You have to really work the white filter in and then put the gray filter on ...

Re: 1st month, Dr. wants SD card data... ?
I doubt the doc will give it more than a cursory glance, if he even sees it at all. The DME wants the card because they have to report the compliance data to the insurer in order to get paid. They will probably make sure that the numbers look like the treatment is reasonably effective but I doubt th...

Re: Guys--Do you like the Swift FX or the Swift Lt better?
I've tried both and found both comfortable but neither worked that well for me. They are both very light but the LT felt more stable and I had better luck with leaks than with the FX. Ultimately, I decided that nasal masks work better for me than the nasal pillows and gave up on both of them, but I ...

Re: Hubby says I'm NOT snoring; Encore says I am. HUH?
I've also been bothered by reports of frequent VS but have decided to ignore that piece of information completely. At one point I thought maybe I was mouth breathing and snoring without realizing it, so I got a PapCap. Ironically, when I tried using the cap, my VS incidence went through the roof--it...

Re: Will CPAP help my acid reflux
A nice side benefit of CPAP has been that it has virtually eliminated my GERD at night. Like BlackSpinner, I was frequently waking up choking on acid that I had sucked down my windpipe, probably because of apneas. I now sleep through the night and haven't been woken up once by heart burn. I still ta...

Re: POLL: Which type of mask is your primary mask?
After five attempts, I have finally settled on the Mirage SoftGel nasal mask. I started with the Swift FX (comfortable but too unstable), the Mirage Micro (stable but dug into my nose), Swift LT (fewer leaks than the FX but still didn't stay put), ComfortGel (didn't fit well--too large overall and h...

Re: Mask suggestions
My pressure is also 12 and I tried both the Swift FX and Swift LT nasal pillow masks. I didn't like either of them, but having nothing to do with the pressure--I just couldn't get them to stay put enough to avoid leaks during the night. I also tried the ComfortGel mask and found it too large and too...

Re: Men - Apnea treatment and testosterone levels
Eddie, that's exactly what I was thinking. I wish the article would say what mechanism would make OSA worse in response to regulating testosterone levels. Clearly BPH can be caused or exacerbated by higher T levels since it's associated with higher levels of DHT (which is a metabolite of testosteron...

Re: Men - Apnea treatment and testosterone levels
Interesting question. My T levels were also very very low. I tried using topical HRT (Testim) but my body didn't seem to absorb it and it didn't raise my levels. In September I started on injections and now my levels are right in the middle of the "normal" range. I too experienced some small increas...

Re: Some questions about nasal pillows?
I started out with CPAP using the FX and liked the feel of it but couldn't get it to work for me. I just had too many leaks no matter how much I adjusted and tweaked the fitting. As others have noted, though, you don't want the pillows to fit tight against your nose--they should just sit at the edge...

Re: The Daily Blowdown
Well I'll let you know how the ComfortGel goes--tonight will be the first night, but it feels very comfy. I don't mind the added size of the nasal masks and they feel a lot more secure on my face than the nasal pillows. My leak graph is also flat as a board with the Mirage Micro and it was all over ...

Re: Starting a Sleep Journal - Feedback Please
I'm just finishing up my first month with CPAP and have been keeping a daily log as well. I note the number of hours of sleep, the humidifier setting, which mask I used that night and my AHI for the night. I then have a section where I just write down any observations, if I woke up during the night,...

Re: The Daily Blowdown
I really WANT to like nasal pillow masks--they're very comfortable and lightweight, but they're leak-city for me. Had good luck with the Micro Mirage nasal mask but it gave me huge welts and zits/blisters on the sides of my nose...very painful and unattractive! Today I received a ComfortGel nasal ma...

Re: Is the PAP CAP effective for you?
I just ordered one and it should arrive tomorrow or Monday. I don't think I'm having issues with mouth breathing, but I thought it was worth a try anyway. I let you know if it affects my leak rate or AHI.

Re: BootCamp, Macs, & ResScan
Unfortunately, however, if he has a PR machine, you get very limited data from the LCD display--only 7 and 30 day averages for AHI and large leak, both of which are fairly useless pieces of information. You really need to be able to see your daily AHI, not monthly averages. And the large leak data o...
