Re: Discussion on positional sleep apnea?
I may fall into the rare category, but sleeping on my back is the absolute worst thing I can do. Im a natural back sleeper, so I rig up ties to my belt loops so that I cant roll over in sleep!!! Apparently my soft tissues are so soft that ......even with cpap, I will snore and have APNEAS WITH the m...

Re: Hard time breathing with cpap
I have the same problem. What I do is let the thing blow air directly into my mouth and breathe deeply until i feel like im fully oxygenated and relaxed. Then I mask up. Much Easier. Also, I tend to read a lot before sleeping, and wait until im virtually exhausted and ready to nod off, and then mask...

Re: Disastrous Medical Doctors-Top TenList of Apnea Ignorances
Im not running down US doctors in cases when they excel WITHIN THEIR SPECIALITIES. As some people have said, an internist can find staph, a cardiologist can find arrythmia, an endocronologist can find hypothyroidism. The problem is that a physician, to make significant money, can only allot so much ...

Re: AHI .9 but still wake with heart racing like I had an event.
Im new here, but a couple things come to mind. Yes, you can still have apneas, racing heart, agitation, etc. on the mask. Its not a cure-all. Are you a back sleeper? Even on cpap, those soft tissues can collapse. Figure out a way to stay on your side or stomach. Also, do you drink alcohol or eat mea...

Re: Disastrous Medical Doctors-Top TenList of Apnea Ignorances
Read this book as soon as possible: "Surviving Your Doctors", "Why the Medical System is Dangerous to Your Health and How to Get through it Alive". You can get it anywhere or on amazon. Sorry to scare anybody. The list I compiled was my personal experience with my doctors. Im glad and thankful if yo...

Disastrous Medical Doctors-Top TenList of Apnea Ignorances
Im compiling a list of things "traditional" M.D.'s do to harm your health in general, and prevent accurate apnea diagnoses in particular: 1. When they hear "cant breath", "tired", and "agitated"....they automatically think of heart or thyroid problems. In other words, the most expensive, time consum...

Re: POLL: Top problems in U.S. in diagnosis & treatment of OSA
In my case, I had to go to the Mayo Clinic before getting any hint of the nudge toward sleep study.
And make no mistake, they wanted to investigate all manner of EXPENSIVE and TRADITIONAL medicine first.
So I had no trouble checking the box "medical community absolutely ignorant"

Re: Just want to check that I won't suffocate!
You wont suffocate for the same reason that you were DIAGNOSED with OSA to begin with. Namely, that your brain, thanks to our heavenly Designer, startles you awake (and all kinds of other chemical reactions within the body no doubt) jolts you awake when your oxygen level falls below a certain parame...

Re: taking mask off while asleep
Yeah, what youre describing is the "half awake, half asleep" complex that many of us were programmed with from birth. We're also the types that talk in our sleep, and can actually carry out functions that imply we're awake, when we're REALLY asleep. So you've got to think outside the box here. What ...

Re: Spouse is hating the CPAP
I wanted to add, that if the machine is preventing your spouse from getting proper rest, consider using the second bedroom. Sure its an inconvenience, but it might show that you value your spouses sleep and well being. Maybe join her in bed for the hour before sleep, have some good talks, keep up yo...

Re: Spouse is hating the CPAP
Im really sorry to hear about your ongoing challenges, and YES, your questions are appropriate. What could be more natural than the hassles and tensions in marriage that are caused by illnesses? And make no mistake, sleep apnea is an ILLNESS that threatens our health. More frequently than is known o...
