Re: A question of semantics: Why does the patient fail CPAP?

The use of the word fail doesn't assign blame in either Medicare or private/commercial insurances. It is used to indicate only that the treatment has been trialed and is ineffective. Most insurance companies don't really care WHY the treatment failed - only that the least expensive method of treatme...

Re: Board Certification

Every 7 years my husband starts his board certifications over again. He's board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. They all term out at 10 years, but at different intervals. He's board eligible for Hyperbaric Medicine, but I'm not sure he'll take those boa...

Re: Remzzzs facial mask and Insurance/Medicare

Getting DME items coded is a pretty daunting process. They have to go through PDAC at Noridian Administrative Services. They have the CMS contract to do coding for Medicare. It's http://www.dmepdac.com. There's a link on the front page of PDAC that goes to the product review application process. For...

Here's an article on "protein losing enteropathy": http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/182565-overview

Haven't found anything that relates apnea to it, yet.

Re: CPAP POLL

I said "great". I wish I had listened to dh when he said I needed a sleep study. I no longer get up to go the the bathroom 3 times a night; don't wake up with headaches, don't fight to stay awake during the day and no longer have sore joints. I wish I had listened to him sooner and wish he had gone ...

Re: Wireless modem

The modem didn't replace the SD card. I can still remove it and put it in my laptop and see all my stats. The DME company won't be doing any changes on my machine. The doc has access to the account and will do any changes needed - not the DME company. I just think it's cool that I can email my doc a...

Why only needed for the first 30 days? Wouldn't it be useful for the doc to make changes past the initial 30 days?

Re: Does Medicare pay for repairs to 4yr old machines ?

Medicare will pay for repairs - labor and parts as long as they are necessary for the item to function. If the company doing the repairs will not bill Medicare, you can submit your claim to your Region or Zone carrier. Repairs are billed as K0739, replacement parts as E1399. If you submit the claim ...

Wireless modem

My DME guy came out tonight and attached a wireless modem to my machine. Now my doc can see what's on my machine just by logging onto an account and can make changes to it if needed. And I don't have to send in my data card to the DME company to show compliance. I lurve technology! Anyone else have ...

Re: Medicare coverage for repeat sleep study

Repeat testing is covered by Medicare and there are no "utilization* barriers. However, your Zone or Region may have an internal utilization limit that ends up kicking a claim out for review. As long as your physician and Sleep Lab have the required documentation, there shouldn't be a problem. Here'...

Re: Why?

This has started happening to me too! My mask worked w/out leaks the first week and then *poof*. Last night I just tied a bandana around my head and the mask so I could get some sleep!
