Re: corrected sleap apnea with surgery
I had been being treated at a world renowned hospital for over one year. After 4 sleep studies, a cpap, bipap, and asv machine, my apnea was never corrected. I remember my sleep doctor saying my throat looked crowded, but my tonsils and adenoids had been removed as a kid, and she made no further sug...

Re: Has anyone had surgery to correct Apnea?
I just had an osteotomy with genioglossus advancement(Brought out my chin and tongue along with it) and it was successful. I needed my airway opened at the base of my tongue. I left a message concerning this in this forum yesterday. My sleep doctor says it's a permanent fix and unless I gain weight ...

corrected sleap apnea with surgery
Just wanted to let you all know I had surgery in June, osteotomy with genioglossus advancement. Surgery was a success. My airway is now 9mm at the base of my tongue and, after a sleep study for proof, I am able to sleep without my machine. Length of sleep has improved dramatically over the summer. I...

Re: Genioglossus advancement/Osteotomy
Because of my age, my doc opted for the next best thing for me, chin and tongue advancement. He claimed that statistics show that at least 50% of patients over 50 having the jaw surgery(braces for a year and then surgery to move the entire jaw forward, and the tongue along with it, never regain feel...

Genioglossus advancement/Osteotomy
Had surgery on Wed. Doc opened up my windpipe at the base of my tongue from 3mm to 14 by pulling my chin and tongue forward. He also sutured my tongue at the base. Certainly wasn't an easy decision to make, and a pretty painful procedure, but I'm hearing from my husband about results already. Snorin...

Re: Many Have Been Frustrated/Angry with Me
Hey, Madalot, haven't been around for awhile. Just had to add my two cents. No one knows you and your situation better than YOU. Keep the faith and keep sharing your experiences here. I've learned so much from people like you here on this site. Switched sleep doctors, DME, and having surgery next we...

Re: Ready to quit
Determination and time is a great part of success. I too learned to sleep on my back and that really helped with the leakage. When I get frustrated, I remind myself of the AHI numbers without my mask. My numbers aren't where I'd like them to be yet, but they're much better than with no mask. Hang in...

Re: genioplasty for osa treatment
Thanks Rooster. I found it ironic that as I'm looking into a procedure to compensate for my jaw structure and open my airway, you resurrected that thread. I'm grateful to my dentist for listening to me and sending me into this direction. It's another option worth looking into.

Re: genioplasty for osa treatment
Thanks, I'm going to ask him about the other procedures. He understands OSA and has worked with other numerous patients to treat it. I was told that I have A 90 percent chance of having instances of AHI eliminated or at least having lower pressures control instances. My numbers are not good now and ...
