Re: Slightly OT: Sugar - I wonder how it affects SDB...
Personally I'm not a fan of elimination of food groups or put the blame on specific ingredients rather than where I think the blame really lies: lack of moderation and lack of physical activity. Before processed sugar and high-fructose corn syrups are at high enough levels to really impact a person,...

Re: Getting major leaks with Quattro FX.
The first 3 nights all was fine with leaks, only small minor leaks. Last night however was different. I tested the mask before I went to bed with the highest pressure and all seemed fine, I laid down and went to sleep, and with in an hour I am awaken by a massive leaks. I fixed the problem, and go ...

Respironics FitLife Total Mask Question
Greetings, I'm considering buying a full face mask as a backup to my Swift FX plus chin strap. last night at the local A.W.A.K.E., a Respironics rep was showing off a bunch of mask and the large FitLife Total Mask looked very interesting. From what I can tell from cpap.com, there are no replacement ...

Re: low carb diet?
Blaming it on the genes is a bad excuse that does not generally hold true. Acting on a suggestion from a post here, my dad and I compared my recent HS album with his from 40 years ago. 40 years ago 80% of the senior girls were skinny and almost none were obese. Now look at the girls in my album. Fa...

Re: A question of semantics: Why does the patient fail CPAP?
Honestly, if that phrase "patient failed CPAP" appeared with the recommendation to go to Bilevel, I don't mind at all. It's a short hand and is aimed at the insurance company. Of course, the words "patient failed" have a deep meaning for a lot of us. In my case, I've been having a frustrating time f...

Re: low carb diet?
FWIW, I'm on one of those medically supervised liquid diets (although not strictly a liquid diet due to the inclusion of four differnt flavor of bars). The one I'm on is based on a product brand called Optifast, although HMR is the more recognized brand. Seventeen weeks of "product" only; four to ei...

Re: Awake with Mask-Off
FWIW, I also ripped my mask off my fast a lot. In my case, part of the problem was that the nasal mask I was using wasn't fitting properly. It seemed to fit just fine when I was shown how to wear it, but, after a while, it started to leak. Swapped to a different nasal mask. Same leak problem and the...

Re: DeVilbiss IntelliPAP Auto with Smart Flex???
Thanks for the replies. I finally found some of the previous discussions on the Ozzie hose. Looks like it lasts a lot longer than I thought, which would reduce the advantage of the cheaper S9 heated hose. From what I can tell the Ozzie hose is a bit stiffer where as the S9 heated hose has a smaller ...

Re: DeVilbiss IntelliPAP Auto with Smart Flex???
Hello. I'm currently considering buying an IntelliPAP auto with Smart Flex or a S9 with the heated hose as my main machine. My current machine is a basic Respronics REMStar Plus that doesn't provide me with any useful data. Since I'm paying for this out of pocket (can't wait another 2+ years for an ...
