Re: Sleep apnea or UARS and Xyrem

I went through a horrible time with sleep deprivation. Went on Ambien but couldn't tolerate, went on anti-anxiety meds and they didn't work for long, went on Lunesta and also could not tolerate. Didn't do well on Ambien or Lunesta because I felt like my body was fighting and kept arousing for gasps...

Re: Whoppers I have been told from DME, techs, etc

I wanted to give an update concerning my DME and the mask thing. He called me last week and said that my Medicare compliance was completed, and that I could bring the wireless modem back to him. He told me that I am allowed to keep both of the masks that I had been trying out(Mirage softgel and Swif...

Re: Discussion on positional sleep apnea?

I wanted to talk a little about positional sleep apnea. On my sleep lab test, it was shown that I had mild sleep apnea with an AHI index of 12.9. This was all from hypopneas and no apneas. The supine AHI was 10.2. This means that my non-supine AHI was only 2.7. So that basically means if I don't sl...

Re: Discussion on positional sleep apnea?

From your sleep test how were your SpO2 results. Hypopneas can cause significant reductions in blood oxygen which aren't good. I convinced myself of my Sleep Apnea by making an Infra Red video of my sleep while using a recording SpO2 meter. Well my baseline SpO2 was 98.3 % and it only went down to ...

Re: Discussion on positional sleep apnea?

I questioned my doctor on sleep positions. Actually, my WHOLE REASON for going in for my last test was for me to find out if I was better or worse on my side/stomach or back. The doc didn't really seem to care about my request for that information. BUT, when I sleep on my side or stomach, I get muc...

Re: MIRAGE FX NASAL MASK

I've been trying out the Mirage softgel mask, and it kinda sticks out pretty far from the face. So when I sleep on my sides with a regular pillow, I'm a little worried that the pillw might push the mask away from my face some, which could cause leaks. This Mirage FX mask looks like it's definitely s...

Re: Who'd a thunk it?

if your leaks are too high then your low AHI doesn't mean anything. I was wondering about this. The leak rate limit for my machine is 24 L/min. Yesterday my leak rate was 28.8 L/min, and my AHI was real low. That was the first time that my leak rate was over the limit since I've been using the mach...

Re: Whoppers I have been told from DME, techs, etc

beyondtired, I would never wait for a DME to call me to check on anything. My RT has and eemail address and is very good about returning phone calls. Be proactive and call/ask for what you need. Also, it helps to cultivate a relationship with one RT or tech and deal only with them. The same with th...

Re: Whoppers I have been told from DME, techs, etc

Were the masks they were providing brand new and in sealed packaging? Was the packaging marked anywhere as "Sample" or "For Short Term Use Only"? Here's the scoop: 1. All of the major mask manufacturers have return programs. If you have a mask that you're not getting along with, you can return it t...

Re: Whoppers I have been told from DME, techs, etc

The morning after my titration at the sleep lab, that was in a hospital, I was taken to a room where a DME person already had a CPAP machine waiting on a table for me. This CPAP was a non data capable, PR System One REMstar Plus CPAP Machine. They told me that the System One Plus was the same CPAP t...

Re: Not feeling any better yet on CPAP..

Hi Beyond. If I may propose an idea, since you have two masks, is starting a sleep journal that works in conjunction with your data software. My sleep journal looks like this....then you can see what is working/not working. Just an idea. This has REALLY helped me. The last columns that didn't show ...

Re: Not feeling any better yet on CPAP..

You get the card reader so you can get those reports. Don't worry, someone here will help you decipher them. Right. It's a starting point. Have to start somewhere to see if there is anything that could possibly explain lack of improvement. Then you can look at other possible factors if need be. Rig...

Re: Not feeling any better yet on CPAP..

You get the card reader so you can get those reports. Don't worry, someone here will help you decipher them. While you are getting, do you have a copy of your sleep studies? If not, make arrangements to get them. Full studies if you can (not just the summary pages). If you had a formal titration, g...
